We absolutely loved seeing this post from Cheriton Childminder after one of our sessions. ❤️
At three years old, using a real tool isn't simply about learning to saw. It's about listening, coordination, perseverance, confidence and beginning to understand how to recognise and manage risk — all with the support of an experienced Forest School Leader.
And sometimes, after a lot of hard work, you even get a very special wooden cookie to take home! 🪵😊

🌿 **Sometimes, just look up.**

No activity to complete.
No end product to take home.
Nothing that needs to be achieved.

Just time beneath the trees.

Time to explore, notice, move, wonder, play… or simply be.

There’s something rather special about slowing down under the canopy. The sounds are different. The pace is different. And somehow, being surrounded by nature gives us a little more space to breathe.

At Step-Out, we believe that time in nature doesn’t always need a purpose.

🔥 **A little bit of fire magic at Mini-Forestlings today…**

Today we explored fire — learning how to stay safe around it, watching how it changes and, of course, cooking something over the flames. 🔥🌿

Even our littlest Forestlings can begin to learn about risk, responsibility and respect for fire when they’re given the opportunity to experience it safely.

There was lots of watching, wondering, talking… and eating! 😊

Just another morning learning through real experiences in the woods. 🌳

Our October Half-Term Holiday Club is coming up — three full days of outdoor adventures, woodland play and plenty of muddy fun at Step-Out! 🍂🔥🌳

📅 Tuesday 27 – Thursday 29 October
⏰ 10am–3pm
💚 Early Bird: £30 per child, per day
⏳ Early Bird ends TOMORROW – 30 September!

Children can join us for one day, two days or all three.

This is a drop-off session, giving children a proper day in the woods to explore, play, create, take on challenges and enjoy being outdoors.

🥪 Please bring a packed lunch
🌧️ Come dressed for the weather — mud is very much part of the experience!

Book before the end of tomorrow to secure the £30 early-bird rate.

This Halloween, we're heading into the woods for two hours of spooky Forest School fun!

Expect fires, woodland games, Halloween challenges and plenty of opportunities to explore, get muddy and have fun in the woods.

We've split the day into two age groups so we can tailor the activities:

🕷️ Ages 5–8: 10am–12pm
🦇 Ages 9–14: 1pm–3pm
📅 Friday 30 October
🎟️ £20 per child
👻 Drop-off sessions

Costumes are very welcome, but remember this is Halloween Step-Out style — warm layers, sturdy shoes or wellies, and costumes that can cope with a bit of mud!

Forest Families is back! 🌲🔥

Switch off. Slow down. Spend time together.

We're bringing Forest Families back to the woods this autumn, with one Saturday morning each month for families to escape the screens, get outdoors and simply spend some time together.

Children can explore the stream, build dens, climb, investigate and follow their own interests, while at the heart of the morning we'll gather around the campfire.

You'll help light the fire, prepare brunch and cook together before sitting down to eat in the woods. And the menu changes every month – pancakes, waffles, eggy bread, campfire pizzas, sausages, banana boats, s'mores... who knows what we'll be cooking this time?

🌿 10am–1pm at Step-Out, Evegate
🔥 Saturday 10 October | 7 November | 12 December
🥞 £10 per person, including brunch
👶 Under 2s free when sharing from a grown-up's plate

Most dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for – just let us know when you book.

Come dressed for the weather, bring your wellies and come spend a Saturday morning with us in the woods.
