Every parent wants their child to be happy.

But beyond that, most parents want the same sort of things. They want a child who's confident enough to make friends, respectful to others, willing to have a go, and able to keep going when something doesn't come easily.

Those qualities don't usually appear overnight, and they certainly don't come from sitting behind a screen.

They grow over time through encouragement, good role models and being gently challenged to step outside their comfort zone.

That's exactly what the instructors love seeing in the club.

A child who was too shy to answer a question suddenly volunteers to demonstrate a technique. A student who once wanted to give up earns their next belt because they stuck with it. Friendships are made, confidence grows, and before long parents are telling us they're seeing the difference at home and at school too.

Of course, they'll learn to kick and punch along the way, but if we're honest, that's only part of the journey.

If you're looking for an activity that helps your child grow in confidence, make new friends and learn skills that will stay with them long after they leave the mats, we'd love to welcome you to Hyung Je.

Drop us a message to arrange a free trial class. We'd love to show you what we're all about.

September always feels like a bit of a reset. Schools go back, routines return and quite a few of us start thinking about the things we've been meaning to do for ourselves or our children.

For some of our students, Taekwon-Do becomes much more than another weekly activity. It's somewhere to make friends, get fitter, learn discipline, build confidence and discover that being rubbish at something on your first attempt really isn't the disaster we sometimes think it is!

And adults aren't getting out of this one either. If you've been promising yourself you'll try martial arts “one day”, September is as good a time as any to discover whether it's for you.

We've written a little more about why September is such a good time to start. Have a read below – and if you'd rather stop thinking about it and actually give it a go, drop the club a message and arrange a trial session.

Good luck to everyone grading this weekend!

You've all put the time and effort in over the last few months, so now it's your chance to show what you can do. Try not to overthink it, trust your training, listen carefully, and most importantly... enjoy the experience.

All of the instructor team are incredibly proud of how hard you've all been working, and we can't wait to see you all on the mats.

Good luck everyone!

Set your goals high… then raise the bar again.

Martial arts isn’t about standing still. It’s about steady progress, small improvements, and pushing yourself a little further than you did last week.

Whether it’s earning your next belt, improving your fitness, mastering a pattern, or simply building confidence — goals matter.

What’s one thing you’re working towards right now in your training?

Drop it in the comments. Let’s back each other properly and keep moving forward.

Apparantly it's tell a joke day....
Which means we have a perfectly legitimate excuse to ask you all for your best (or worst!) jokes.

As many of you have unfortunately discovered over the years, Mr E does have a bit of a soft spot for a good dad joke. Some would even say it's become part of the training experience...
The eye rolls.
The groans.
The "Oh no, not again..."

Sadly, he considers them all signs of appreciation. 😄

So, let's hear them.
What's the best joke you've got? It can be a proper joke, a terrible pun or one that's so bad it's actually funny.
The only rule is... keep it family-friendly!

Let's see if anyone can make the instructors laugh... or if someone can finally tell a joke that's even worse than one of Mr E’s!

Today is the one day of the year where all our left-handed students can officially remind everyone that they have a tactical advantage... and, just this once, we won't argue. 😄

If you've ever sparred a left-hander, you'll probably know exactly what I mean.

Everything suddenly feels... backwards.

The angles are different. Your favourite combinations don't seem to land quite as easily. And before you know it, you've started moving differently or even switching your stance just to try and make things feel normal again.

Meanwhile, the left-hander is usually thinking, "Welcome to my world!"

The interesting thing is that this isn't just imagination. Because most people are right-handed, left-handed fighters spend almost all of their training sparring orthodox opponents. Orthodox fighters, on the other hand, get far fewer opportunities to face lefties. That little difference in experience can make southpaws surprisingly awkward to deal with.

Of course, being left-handed doesn't automatically make you a better martial artist. Good timing, good footwork, good control and plenty of practice will always beat relying on a stance alone.

But if you're a lefty... enjoy your day.

And if you're right-handed... maybe pair up with a southpaw a little more often. It might be frustrating at first, but you'll become a much better martial artist because of it.

So... who's our favourite left-handed sparring partner at Hyung Je? (No naming and shaming... although we probably all have someone in mind! 😄)

If you've joined the gym three times and stopped going three times, you're not alone.

The problem usually isn't motivation.

It's boredom.

Martial arts gives you something different.

Every session has a purpose.

There's always something new to learn, improve or achieve.

You build fitness without staring at a treadmill.

You gain confidence without even realising it.

And you become part of a great group of people along the way.

If you're looking for a different way to get fit, come and try a class.

One of the things people often don't expect when they join martial arts is the friendships.

People arrive for different reasons.

Fitness.

Confidence.

A new challenge.

But many stay because of the people they train alongside every week.

Training is always more enjoyable when you're surrounded by people who encourage you, support you and genuinely want to see you succeed.

That's something we're very proud of at Hyung Je.

If you're looking for a new challenge and a great group of people to share it with, come and give us a try.

Not every child enjoys traditional team sports.

Some children thrive when they're given clear goals, supportive coaching and the chance to progress at their own pace.

At Hyung Je, we help children develop confidence, discipline, resilience and respect while having fun and making friends along the way.

No shouting.

No intimidation.

Just supportive coaching and a welcoming environment where children can grow.

If you're looking for an activity that develops more than just fitness, we'd love to meet you.

Message us today to arrange a free trial class.
