Useful information for all our parents not just those going to primary in September. Our setting really promotes independence and offer lots of activities to support this. All our parents with children starting school this September will have received an email of this guide some time ago. Some parents will have also been given the potty training guide in a hard copy, but they are all available online.

Something to be aware of this summer. We do know of a child that had a product with these ingredients in ( Not at preschool ) who had a very bad reaction so please be aware

Iced treats in the freezer? Here is a quick label check for parents this summer!

Did you know that some sugar-free iced treats contain an ingredient called glycerol (also listed as E422)?

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recently updated its guidance, advising that frozen products containing glycerol shouldn’t be given to children aged 4 and under, and should be enjoyed only in moderation by kids aged 5 to 10.

In treats like freeze pops or slushies, sugar naturally keeps the ice soft enough to bite. In "Zero Sugar" versions, glycerol is often used to do that job instead. Despite glycerol being typically low in toxicity, there are concerns about its impact on young children when consumed in large amounts over a short period.

How to quickly check your freezer treats:

Flip the box over and scan the ingredients for "Glycerol" or "E422". If it's there, save those ones for the older kids or grown-ups!

No need to panic, it’s just a great habit to check the back of the packet rather than assuming sugar-free is always the best choice for toddlers!

After the rain we nipped out for a breath of fresh air, the children were fascinated by the snails popping into their shells and when we stood very still and were quiet we saw a few slither along.
