On Monday 20th July, students at The North School will be taking part in our annual Race for Life event in support of Cancer Research UK.

Over the past two years, our school community has raised more than £3,000 for this incredibly important cause. We are hoping to continue that success this year and make a significant contribution once again.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference in supporting life-saving cancer research and helping to improve outcomes for those affected by cancer.

Harry's fundraiser for Cancer Research UK Help Harry Welsby raise money to support Cancer Research UK

⭐Tailored to Your Interests: Our tours are not rigidly planned. Whether you want to focus on core academic departments or explore our specialist spaces, your guide will take you to the areas that matter most to you and your child.

⭐During the tour, you will see our extensive facilities in action, including our sports hall, creative and performing arts studios, hospitality kitchens, design technology workshops, climbing wall, and our unique school farm!

Kent County Show news

We took 22 Young Farmers, 9 cattle, 10 lambs, 1 ewe, 4 pigs, 2 goats, 2 Guinea Pigs and a rabbit (oh and a scarecrow!).

Friday morning we were up early to get the animals bathed, brushed and prepared for their conformation classes. We had some great results including reserve champion for a pair of homebred Blue Texel lambs shown by Ethan and Ethan, 1st for Matthew M with Biscoff the calf and 1st for Maisy with a homebred Texel lamb. Friday also saw us enter the parade class with our Beef Shorthorn and Matthew T gave a great talk to the crowd about them. The evening saw half the group head off to the Young Farmer’s disco!

Saturday was all about knowledge and handling. This involves talking to the judge about your animal, how you have reared it, trained it, prepared it for show and the knowledge you have about its health. Again some brilliant results across the board, the highlight being Henry getting 2nd in pig handling with his very energetic pig giving him the run around the ring!! We finished the day with some fun classes such as beef and dairy pairs which is where the Young Farmers have to look for an animal from another club that matches theirs and show them together. A great opportunity to get the clubs talking and interacting. We got firsts in both beef rings and in the dairy ring! The teacher leaders were next, this year represented by Miss Marshall and Miss Cooper. Unfortunately, Miss Marshall was upset when she got beaten by a Guinea Pig!

We finished the day with a team in “It’s a Knockout” (who got very wet!), a lovely BBQ and some sheep washing ready for Turnout on Sunday.
Sunday is the most intense day of the show for the Young Farmers as they and their animal need to be pristinely turned out, even down to having spotless soles of their boots! After an early start to bathe all the animals, the Young Farmers got them ready for the show ring, coming out with more great results. Connie earnt 1st place with a homebred Texel lamb, Ethan C got 1st with his calf Buffy, Maisy got second with Albert the goat and Matthew T got 1st with Biscoff the calf. A great result all round. Tallulah had a go at giving the commentary for the Supreme Championship which earnt her a trophy for her dedication. The Young Farmers worked incredibly hard all weekend and should be very proud of their results, as we are. We finished the weekend as top scoring School Club and third place overall which is fabulous.

We want to say a huge thank you to all the staff and parents that came to visit us at the show, it is always lovely for the Young Farmers to see familiar faces around the ring. A huge thank you to the staff that gave up their time to support us - Mr Kemp-Green, Mrs Tomsett, Miss Wood, Mr Smithers, Mr Bowen, Mrs Ellerby, Mrs Spreadborough and Miss Cooper, who also kept the rest of the animals back at the farm fed and watered!! The biggest thank you goes to the Farm Team as we could not do the show without them and all their hard work before, during and after the show - Thank you Mrs Matthews, Miss Marshall and Cara!

Boys Athletics

What an incredible day we had last week for some of our students at the District Athletics Championship! We are absolutely thrilled to share that our talented athletes returned with an astounding haul of 24 medals in total.
Our students competed with immense determination, exceptional sportsmanship, and outstanding teamwork across all track and field events. While a full list of results will follow, we want to give a massive shout-out to some of our standout individual performances from the meet:

Individual Highlights
Saad (Year 7): A phenomenal double-gold performance! Saad dominated the track, taking Gold in both the 80m and the 100m sprints.
Dylan (Year 10): Showed incredible endurance and tactical awareness to secure a brilliant Gold in the 800m.
Nohem (Year 7): Put on a fantastic display of strength to win a Silver medal in the Shot Put.
Matthew (Year 8): Delivered an excellent throw to claim Silver in the Javelin.
Plus so many more.

Relay Success
The excitement didn't stop with the individual events. Our baton passing and teamwork were top-tier , with our teams placing and meddling in three out of the four year group relays! The atmosphere at the track during these races was electric, and our runners did themselves incredibly proud.

A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to support, and to the PE department for their dedicated coaching and preparation leading up to this day.
Whether they brought home a medal or achieved a personal best, every single student represented our school brilliantly.

The North School Alumni

Last week, we welcomed back twenty past students who left the school 50 years ago. It was an absolute privilege to lead our guests on a tour of the school, listening to their stories and watching their reactions as we came across the buildings they remember as well as seeing how much the school has changed.

There were lots of opportunities for the class of 1976 to share and compare stories as well as coming together to listen to a presentation from Mrs Ellerby which was followed with a Q & A session and time to enjoy tea and sausage rolls & cakes, prepared and served by our Year 10 Catering students. Our guests also had the chance to meet with a group of current students and discuss their experiences of their time at The North School. Amongst the group, we had engineers, a lawyer, a chef, a radiographer, mechanics and even an Elvis impersonator!

We look forward to welcoming our next Alumni group on Tuesday 14th July.
