I know that many students really HATE Maths and groan when its time for Maths class or simply dread exam time.
But it doesn't have to be that way and sometimes just knowing why you have to do Maths can help motivate you to actually start enjoying the subject or at least least the merits now and for the future rather than something you HAVE to do.

Here are just some reasons

1. Finances - you need to be able to calculate your budget in terms of how much you have coming in versus how much is going out.
2. Daily tasks such as shopping, travelling, as well as weights and measures
3. A pass in Maths opens up many more job opportunities in a number of areas and even in the growing tech area - many of these principles are based around mathematics

So ok - you might not fall in love with the subject but by seeing the benefits you might start to see the why and that understanding will help you become a better problem solver and logical thinker - think about it!!!

Good luck to all the children sitting their 11+ today. Do your best and the best will come to you

I would highly recommend Rowena as a tutor for the Kent test. She really took the time to get to know my son and work out the gaps in his knowledge. He has come on so much in his 18 months of tutoring, and most importantly has really enjoyed his sessions and feels confident going into the exam next week.Debbie

Thanks Debbie

Not long now until the 11+ 2026. With only one week until the exam - your child's focus should be on technique- new learning now is not advised but they should practice what they know.

With this exam timing is very important - don't spend too long puzzling over one question - move on and advise your child to answer first all those they know - and if they are running out of time - guess. Remember you get zero for a blank answer!!

There is still plenty of time to practice with the multiple choice style papers which the Kent test uses and although longer than the actual exam - they allow your child to experience the multiple choice format. If your child did a mock exam and they didn't pass in one area - then focus on that. Good luck!

Didn't get the Maths GCSE grade you wanted? Are you going to resit in November? You want to look at WHY you didn't get the grade you wanted and target your revision. What I suggest is to tackle those core subjects that always come up; Fractions, Percentages, Pythagoras, Ratio. The earlier questions are always easier and as a general rule of thumb - if you can answer easily the first 12 or so questions you are on track. But you must develop a strategy - sometimes it only take a little tweaking which can make all the difference between one grade and another. Need any help? I am here
