Did we mention we have a new bass tutor starting soon??…….. Well, we do!! Paul Bowley 🎸

Paul’s technical ability and groove are outstanding, and we’re really excited to have him joining us at the Academy of Rock!

In the 15 years since we opened, we’ve probably only had around 15 people come through the doors for bass lessons, which we find terribly sad, because in our opinion, bass is one of the foundations of any great-sounding band.

Bass and drums work together to create the groove and the foundation. Then you’ve got something for the guitars, vocals and melodies to sit on top of. Get that rhythm section right and everything else just works!

One of our aims is to create a nucleus of awesome bassists in the area. If you’re a good bassist, you’ll ALWAYS be in demand.

And there’s far more to playing bass than standing at the back plonking out root notes! When it’s played well, we think it’s one of the best instruments out there.

Don’t believe us? Turn on your stereo and zero out the bass. You’ll soon be sliding it back up again!

And those massive sub speakers you see rattling your rib cage when you go to see a band?…… Yep. LOW END!! 🔊

So why not join us on our mission and come and slap, tap, pluck and slide some bass! 🎸

Result!!! What a day yesterday The Bulls Head Ashby!!! This was our first event organised in collaboration with the venue and Ah-mazing Events UK

Sam and Breeny at The Bulls Head are second to none when it comes to backing and promoting an event and between us all, we managed fend off the rain and fill the place, creating a quality afternoon and evening of entertainment which was enjoyed by many!!

Next stop Oktoberfest and not forgetting our fortnightly open mics on Thursdays (next one being 24th Sept!!)

🤠 THE WILD WEST IS COMING TO THE BULLS HEAD… hosted by The Bulls Head Ashby, AHmazing Events and ourselves!

The preparations are well and truly underway for our Country & Western Festival THIS SATURDAY 12th September!

The hay bales have arrived, the barn effect is going up, the stage is getting ready and we’re transforming the Bulls Head b**r garden ready for a huge day of country fun!

From 3pm till late we’ve got live country music, with Luke Boyce-Poyser, Duncan Keith, Andy Hughes and Roper Country, plus professional line dancing at 6pm — get those cowboy boots ready because everyone can join in!

We’ll also have Anoki BBQ Grill firing up the food, our Country & Western stall where you can grab yourself a cowboy hat and accessories, the outside bar, bouncy castles and plenty going on for the whole family.

NO TICKETS NEEDED!

Dressing up is VERY much encouraged, so dig out the denim, boots and cowboy hats and come and join us for a proper country party right here in Ashby.

FRIDAY AT THE ACADEMY OF ROCK 🎶

Another busy week of lessons and rehearsals at The Academy of Rock! 🥁🎸🎤

Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time, getting back into playing after a few years away, looking to improve your playing, or simply need a decent space for your band to rehearse, then we can help.

We currently offer:

🥁 Drum lessons
🎸 Guitar lessons
🎸 Bass lessons
🎤 Vocal tuition
🎶 Fully equipped rehearsal rooms

And through our involvement with local Open Mics and live music and recording / filming studios, there are opportunities for students who want to take what they’ve been learning and actually put it into practice in front of an audience or produce promo.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced musician, everyone is welcome.

This is great news!! 👏🎶

The last couple of decades have seen Leicester lose some fantastic music venues, including The Shed, The Musician and, of course, the legendary Princess Charlotte.

Keeping places such as The Donkey going, putting on quality live bands week in, week out, is essential to keeping Leicester’s local and grassroots music scene thriving.

Huge news for Leiecster music scene: The Donkey is officially returning! 🫏🎶

Leicester’s grassroots music scene is getting a massive boost! The iconic venue on Welford Road is officially reopening mid-September under the team behind local favourites The Cradock Arms and The Clarendon.

Rest assured, local music fans, The Donkey is staying The Donkey! The brothers are keeping everything we love about its history while giving the building a huge, much-needed makeover. Phase One opening mid-September includes major upgrades to the main pub, stage, backstage, toilets, and the installation of a brand-new commercial kitchen for food service. Legendary events like the Sunday Sessions and the Music Quiz are also returning!
