With Carsington Water right on our doorstep, we're lucky to have places like this nearby.

Being outdoors doesn't always have to be about big challenges or trying something new. Sometimes it's simply about enjoying a relaxing stroll, taking in the views, having a chat or having a bit of time away from the usual day-to-day routine.

For the young people we support, these moments can be just as valuable as the bigger adventures. Time to talk, enjoy being outdoors, build trust and make good memories along the way.

It's the simple things that can make a difference, too. 🏔️

MEET LAUREN 👋 | OPERATIONS MANAGER

Meet Lauren, one of our Operations Managers.

Lauren brings over 12 years of experience in the healthcare sector, supporting older adults, individuals with learning disabilities, and vulnerable children and young people. Since joining Salem, she has developed valuable frontline experience working directly with young people, alongside supporting the wider team and the day-to-day running of our service.

For Lauren, one of the best things about working at Salem is being part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference.

💬 “Working in a crisis service can be challenging at times, but it’s really rewarding knowing that the work we do can have a positive impact on someone at a difficult point in their life.”

As an Operations Manager, no two days are the same. Lauren enjoys supporting staff through challenges, finding solutions to problems and making sure the service runs as smoothly as possible. She particularly values being able to step in when someone needs support and seeing what can be achieved through good teamwork.

Outside of work, Lauren loves spending time with her family and friends -whether that’s going out, enjoying a meal together or simply catching up.

And when it comes to being on time… Lauren does not mess around! ⏰ She’d much rather arrive 20 minutes early than be one minute late.

🐮 Fun fact: Lauren has a serious love for Highland cows! In fact, she has Highland cow-themed items dotted all around her life - from décor to gifts and everything in between. Needless to say, she’s never far away from a fluffy Highland cow!

The role involves supporting young people with day-to-day care, activities, outdoor experiences, and helping them develop confidence, independence and life skills.

Getting outside, exploring new places, trying different things and finding activities that someone enjoys can all be part of the time we spend with young people.

Sometimes that's getting out on a bike. 🚲

There's no one-size-fits-all approach. We take the time to understand the young person and what works for them.

A Little More About Salem

As Salem continues to change & grow, we thought it was time to share a little more of our story…🏔️

Our page has always been here, but moving forward, we're going to be sharing more of the people, experiences and work that make Salem what it is.

Founded in 2023, Salem provides activity breaks and therapeutic support placements for young people in care.🌿

Based in the heart of the Peak District, we use therapeutic approaches, outdoor activities and education to support young people in a way that works for them.

Our respite and crisis intervention work provides young people with a safe, supportive environment when they need it most. We use outdoor experiences and therapeutic activities as part of that support, helping young people to build confidence, develop resilience, manage emotions and experience something positive during difficult times. 🤝

Every young person is different, and so is the support they need. We take the time to understand the individual and create an approach that works for them, using the outdoors, activities and positive relationships to support their progress.

But Salem isn't just about what we do - it's about the people behind it.

Behind everything we do is a team of people who each bring their own skills, experience and passion to Salem. From those working directly with young people to those supporting things behind the scenes, everyone plays their part in making what we do possible.

Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be sharing more of who we are, what we do and why we do it.

Expect to see more of our team, outdoor activities, behind-the-scenes moments, professional insight, company updates and plenty of life in the Peak District. 🌳

At Salem Activity Breaks, we are passionate about changing the way young people are supported through access to the outdoors, therapeutic relationships, and meaningful experiences.

We provide high-quality activity breaks and therapeutic support placements for young people with complex needs, helping them build confidence, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes. Using therapeutic approaches including PACE, low arousal techniques, and least restrictive practice, we create safe, nurturing environments where young people can reset, grow, and thrive.
