The Owls enjoyed a MiniMe Mindfulness session with Claire this week πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

The session, focused on the superpower of our senses. The children used their 5 senses to help them to stay calm and present in the moment.

They learnt about The Little Girl With Birds in her Head and how her thoughts were constantly flying off into the past or the future as though they were on the wings of birds.

The children learnt how their 5 senses can help stop this form happening.

πŸ–οΈ Every mark tells a story

Long before children begin forming letters, they explore mark making through handprints, scribbles, splodges and messy play. These early experiences help them discover that their movements can create marks with meaning - an important first step towards writing.

As babies and young children realise that their actions can leave marks, they begin to develop the understanding and the skills they will need to become writers.

Did you know a bright coat could make a difference to your child’s safety?

Autumn may feel like ages away but before we know it the clocks will change and our children will be heading to and from school in the dark. Wearing a brighter coloured coat can help them be seen more easily by drivers as the nights draw in.

If your child or their school insists on a darker colour you can add reflective strips to increase visibility.

It’s scary to think that something you’d buy your child to keep them safe could do the very opposite.

But many swim vests, life jackets and buoyancy aids sold on online marketplaces come from abroad and haven’t been safety tested to our standards. This makes them a serious drowning risk.

Please opt for well-known brand names and retailers if you can. Always be cautious when shopping online and remember to check who is selling the item and where they are based.

Plus, don't forget drowning happens quickly and quietly. So an adult needs to actively supervise children in and around water all the time.
