You know what's better than saying "this food is good for you"? Tell them what foods do in their body! Why do I keep sharing this message? Because we keep selling our kids short labeling foods and good/bad, healthy/unhealthy. Here are some examples of messages I like for different ages⁠:
⁣⠀⁠⠀
For 2-3yo kids I usually break it down by color. Although it's not 100% accurate, it’s a good framework to get started. ⁣⠀⁠⠀
❤️ Red: gives you a strong heart⁣⠀⁠⠀
🧡 Orange: helps you see in the dark⁣⠀⁠⠀
💛Yellow: helps your body heal cuts⁣⠀⁠⠀
💚Green: gives you super powers to fight off sickness⁣⠀⁠⠀
💜💙Blue and Purple: Give you a strong brain⁣⠀⁠⠀
💟White: gives you energy⁣⠀⁠⠀
⁠⠀
For 4s and 5s you can start being more specific - like carrots and sweet potatoes help you be able to see in the dark. Clementines help your skin heal cuts. Broccoli helps your night vision, your skin heal, AND your bones be strong.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
For 4s/5s and 6s you can introduce the idea that some foods do a lot of things in their bodies and some foods do a few things.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
For 6s and 7s you can introduce the concept of vitamins and minerals - tell them HOW carrots protect their night vision (via vitamin A). Learn about the body.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
For 8s and 9s - learn even more about different things in foods. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
And so on.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
All the while, model the way you want your kids to eat in your home and serve them the balanced diet you want them to eat. That's more powerful than anything you could ever tell them.⁠⠀

Do you ever feel like you can’t switch off at night?
People with ADHD can often find it difficult to get to sleep, or to get enough quality sleep, and this can make the symptoms worse. Being tired all the time isn’t fun, and worrying about it can make things worse! (Image via @inclusionteacher on Instagram.)

Try these things to help you get a better sleep:

* Do some sport or exercise because this can really help make you tired
* Keep your routines and checklists on a sheet of paper next to your bed, and have a read through before you switch off the lights, so you aren’t worrying about things you might have forgotten
* Go to bed a bit earlier, and do some of the stress-beater exercises

* Better sleep can improve your concentration at school
* Half-an-hour more sleep can improve your school performance
* More sleep can reduce your ADHD symptoms

You know what phrase I could live without? “Curiosity killed the cat.” 😾 I like to think that curiosity not only gave that cat the best education to survive, but the best life ever. 😻 I imagine it went on amazing adventures, could use it’s senses like no other, saw incredible things, made the best of friends, discovered exquisite food, and made the most of the limited time we have on this planet. 🌎 Let’s replace that awful phrase with the quote you see above because to be curious, is truly to be blessed. ✨ And there are simple ways we grown ups can support inquisitiveness in children. 🙌 Here are the top 10 ways you can encourage curiosity in your little one! Save them, and share them with a friend who might need to see them today! 💕
(1) Follow their lead!
(2) Answer their questions thoughtfully.�(3) Ask them open-ended questions.
(4) Take them on a nature walk.
(5) Visit a new place.
(6) Tell open-ended stories.
(7) Allow them to make their own choices.
(8) Let them have unstructured play!
