Komorebi Japanese Classes Online

In Japanese, most countries' names are written using katakana. But there is another system of naming countries that uses kanji instead. Today it’s usually not used for naming most countries, but makes its appearance in country-related vocabulary words. Although the characters have meanings, they’re mostly used for phonetic reasons only.
For example: France is "futsu" (仏 – Buddha), and the abbreviation for India is "in" (印 – seal or stamp).

You can see word "coffee" written 2 ways in Japanese language ☕
コーヒー in katakana (special alphabet used for borrowed words) and 珈琲 in characters. These characters mean a special type of tiara or pin that Japanese women wear to decorate their hair (picture is in the first comment to this post) because the branch of red coffee beans resembles it.

It is a beautiful poetic word that evokes imagery of a peaceful scene. Literally "light that filters through the trees". Right near the top of our bucket lists is visiting Japan someday (hopefully soon). It’s a fascinating country that sometimes seems more at home in a fairytale book than on Planet Earth.

My favourite part of online classes is the videos! They do the job for any level, from identifying newly learnt phrases or the grammar inside a dialogue to discussing the plot of the video in Japanese language. I prefer the original short movies over the videos made for students.
