Mischief in early years

I had earlier heard a loud distressed lamb baaa and had gone out to investigate. Focused on checking the lambs were not injured I had not noticed anything else. The lambs looked back at me innocently. I received a phone call from an intern asking if I had let the orphan lambs out into the field. I looked out the window to see the orphan lambs running up and down the field clearly enjoying their field break. They had kicked part of a barrier down and were gleefully now jumping about in the field. Since we only had five going out to pasture at that time, it was the first time the rest had encountered the field and were clearly enjoying the evening's adventure. Some of our determined interns and a staff member rounded them up safe back into their enclosure to wait for the last feed of the day.

In early years, Georgie was the first to jump the enclosure when excited about milk and was definitely a tom boy full of life. In later months she was friendly and did not mind contact but was not too huggy. She was not selected for breeding. Georgie has left the farm with Dot.

Dot has not been selected for breeding but has never been ill so is quite a healthy lamb. Although Dot never wanted to come that close, she would always vocalises when I was near and look at me. I usually vocalised back but do not make further contact. Update 10.12.14 - Dot has now gone.
