SELF-CONTROL DOESN'T MEAN EXPECTING A 3-YEAR-OLD TO SIT STILL.

At 3–5 years old, children are still learning how to manage their bodies, emotions and impulses.

So when we talk about developing self-control at Little Senseis, we're not expecting perfect behaviour.

We're helping children practise little things such as:

✋ Stopping when asked
⏳ Waiting for their turn
👂 Listening before starting
🧠 Remembering a simple rule
🥋 Controlling their movements
😊 Coping when something doesn't go their way
⭐ Trying again when they make a mistake

And like any skill, self-control develops through practice.

A child who once rushed ahead might begin waiting for “GO”.

A child who struggled to follow an instruction might start completing it without another reminder.

A child who became frustrated might learn to stop, reset and try again.

They're small changes.

But for a child preparing for nursery or school, they're BIG developmental wins. 🎒

We don't expect perfection.

We give children a safe, positive place to practise.

🥋 BELTS AREN’T GIVEN. THEY’RE EARNED. 🥋

A huge congratulations to Darren, Kealin and Bobby, who all successfully passed their recent JABBA Adults & Teens belt gradings. 👏🔥

Every new belt represents much more than learning techniques.

It represents the classes they turned up to when they could have stayed home.

The techniques that didn't work the first time.

The fitness they've developed.

The confidence they've built.

And the discipline to keep training, improving and moving forward.

That's what the martial arts journey is really about.

You don't have to be fit before you start.

You don't have to be flexible.

You don't need any previous martial arts experience.

You just need to take the first step.

Darren, Kealin and Bobby all started their journeys somewhere — and now they're another belt closer to their next goal. 💪

🎓🥋 FROM LITTLE SENSEI TO JABBA CADET! 🥋🎓

A very proud moment at the academy as Finn has officially graduated from our Little Senseis Programme and taken his next step into Cadets! 👏❤️

Finn started his journey with Little Senseis, developing the foundations that matter both inside and outside the academy:

🧠 Focus
👂 Listening
⭐ Confidence
🥋 Discipline
🤝 Teamwork
💪 Coordination and body control

And now he's ready for his next challenge.

Finn has already completed his first couple of Cadets classes and is settling in brilliantly. He'll now continue developing his martial arts skills, working towards new tags, belts and milestones as a member of our Cadets Programme for ages 6–11.

This is exactly what we want the JABBA children's journey to be about.

Not simply attending classes.

Growing. Achieving. Progressing.

From their first Little Senseis class, through Cadets and eventually towards leadership and Black Belt, we want every child to have something exciting to work towards.

🧠 CAN A 3-YEAR-OLD REALLY LEARN TO FOCUS?

If you've ever tried getting a 3-year-old to sit still and listen, you might be wondering… is that even possible? 😅

Here's what we've found:

Focus isn't something young children either have or don't have. It's a skill they can practise.

At Little Senseis, we create lots of small, age-appropriate opportunities for children to:

🧠 Remember what they've been asked to do
🥋 Complete a task before moving onto the next one

CONFIDENCE DOESN'T ALWAYS START WITH A KICK. 🥋

Sometimes it starts with a 3-year-old finding their voice, joining in with the group and becoming confident enough to speak up. ❤️

Our Little Senseis Confidence Creed is one of the small ways we encourage our children to listen, participate, communicate and believe in themselves.

For some children, they'll join in straight away.

Others might whisper it at first, watch from the side or need a little encouragement.

And that's absolutely fine.

Because we're not looking for perfection — we're giving children opportunities to practise being brave, confident and part of the group.

These little moments matter.
