Gaming is a huge part of many young people's lives, but some online features can blur the line between gaming and gambling in ways that aren't always obvious.

Our latest guide explains what skin betting is, why it's becoming more common, and how parents, carers and educators can help children stay safe online.

The guide covers:

• What skin betting is and how it works
• Why virtual in-game items can have real-world value
• The risks of unregulated third-party platforms
• Social pressure and influencer promotion
• Warning signs to look out for
• Practical steps to reduce the risks through conversations and parental controls

By understanding how skin betting works, trusted adults can spot potential risks early and help young people make safer choices online.

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely afternoon as we said farewell to our Y6 pupils at an unforgettable leavers service in the village hall. We then held our annual sports day - pupils (and parents) fiercely competed for victory in a wide range of events including old favourites like our tug of war and welly wanging! For the first time Y6 pupils led three of the events with their leadership qualities clearly on display!
Thank you to all parents, governors and friends who shared this memorable day with us!

As we come to the end of the year, we thought we'd treat children to a trip to the Lake District Wildlife Park. A perfect day for seeing wildlife we don't see very often at home!

Yesterday and today we are all about the World Cup. Children worked in teams to use atlases to place all 48 teams on a world map, recognise symmetry in their national flags, and design football kits. We continue today with more challenges, including a final penalty shootout!

Our children had a great time taking part in today's Fun Run around the village. They all gave it their best effort, showed great enthusiasm, and had lots of smiles along the way.
Thank you to everyone who helped volunteer for the event.
The event finished with the official opening of the 'Calming Room' in Class 1. The newly furnished room - with comfortable seating and child-friendly bookshelves, is a cosy, inviting space, providing the perfect environment for quiet reading, storytelling and sharing books with others. This wonderful space has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Asby School.

What a lovely morning! 🌱 Our pupils visited Tebay’s Growing Well project today, where they discovered how the vegetables sold at Westmorland Services are grown right from the ground up. The best part? Getting hands-on and potting their very own plants to bring home!

A great chance to learn where our food comes from — we can’t wait to see how their seedlings grow! 🌿

Today we were delighted to welcome botanist Simon Smart to school. He shared fascinating stories about his travels around the world and taught the children about a wide variety of plants and habitats. The children explored the school grounds with Simon, carefully observing the plants growing around them. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring learning to life and develop their curiosity about the natural world. Thank you Simon for such and inspiring and engaging visit.
