[06/28/21]   ๐ŸŽญ Due to many performers impacted by positive cases within our local community, we are really sad to inform you that we have had to postpone our summer show 'The Show Must Go On'.

We are totally gutted, but we know it's the right thing to do, it is paramount that we keep ourselves and the community safe.

You have all worked so hard and we've loved every minute working with you!

We are looking to put the show on in the Autumn term and details will be confirmed at the start of the Autumn term regarding this. Anyone who has paid for a ticket - this will carry forward to the Autumn performance.

Performers, this means tomorrow will now be a normal school day and in full uniform.

Thanks so much everyone, keep smiling, the show will go on ... eventually!

As part of our efforts to ensure our school environment is a place where every child can read their potential, we will be joining schools up and down the country in celebrating School Diversity Week to celebrate LGBT+ equality. This is an important way for us as a school to actively support our LGBT+ learners, staff and parents. It is an opportunity to explain to all our learners the importance of diversity in the world that we are preparing them for. This will be the theme for our UNITED sessions this week as well as other activities for our learners to engage in.

This week our year 9 learners had an assembly delivered by a Hate Crime Officer with Leicestershire Police. Learners were informed about understanding what hate crime is as well as recognising all protected characteristics. In addition to this, with so many examples currently in the media, learners were informed about any potential personal consequences and impact on their futures that comments made online can have. As part of our UNITED programme, we celebrate diversity and stand together in accepting every individual for who they are. We would like to thank Leicestershire Police for their visit #UNITED

A reminder that tomorrow is our Year 11 Celebration Event! In classic British style it looks like we are being forecast rain but this won't stop us from properly celebrating all our Year 11's successes and a fantastic five years. We plan to run the event until around 4.30/5pm and students must have arranged a way home for when we finish.

We have another jam-packed day for Year 11 before this starts. In the morning we have an ex-student of Mr Fitzjohn's - James Cousins - coming in to talk to the students about starting his own business and his journey after GCSE's. We have then been lucky enough to secure another external speaker - Jeffrey Boakye - who will continue to inspire our Year 11's as they again look towards their futures.

As staff we are extremely excited to see our Year 11's for one more full day and celebrate as they come to the end of their progressive curriculum. It has been a really positive couple of weeks, and we wish them all the luck with their future endeavours.

[06/15/21]   We look forward to welcoming Year 11 back into school tomorrow after their day working from home on careers-based activities.

In the morning they have their last options double followed by a life skills session ensuring they are beginning to equip themselves for interviews and the new challenges ahead of them.

We then have Leicestershire Sexual Health Services coming into school to speak to the students about the importance of this topic. Students will be able to sign up for a 'C-Card' if they wish. The day will end with a talk from Leicestershire Police about the importance of staying safe.

As we come into the last couple of days of our progressive curriculum, we want to again thank our students for showing maturity at all times and being incredible role models to the younger year groups in the school.

Today Warning Zone came into school to do their Crowd Control show to our Year 8 learners about online safety. Year 8's should be better equipped to keep themselves safe online and understand some of the risks associated with using the internet but also the benefits.

Today a number of our Year 10 learners took part in a communications workshop with Talk The Talk. Learners were able to showcase their verbal communication skills and demonstrate excellent active listening. Learners that took part have received a certificate celebrating their progress.

This morning was a fantastic session for our Year 11's as they attended a time management workshop run by the brilliant Elevate Education. Feedback was incredibly positive and our learners were given strategies they can use at sixth form and in the future.

Tomorrow will be for many their last ever English lesson, a session on strategies for learning and the results of their 'egg drop' science challenge.

A reminder that the afternoon is 'sports day' so learners need to wear suitable clothes for taking part and be prepared to be in the sun for an extended period of time.

[06/09/21]   Just a quick reminder - The year 10 academic progress evening bookings will close today at 12PM - follow the link on your email ๐Ÿ“ง to make a booking for this evening ๐Ÿ“š

[06/08/21]   Today was another exciting day for Year 11 as they practiced their presentation skills and built their confidence. After one final Maths lesson they workshopped public speaking in small groups - shoutout to Mrs Chambers' amazing English class for their hard work and creativity - and then spent the afternoon working on a hypothetical project for a new brand of bottled water. They then pitched these Period 5 and we had some very deserving winners.

Tomorrow is all about time management and organisation - with a break in the middle for a Science practical. We are lucky enough to have secured an outside company - Elevate Education - who will be delivering a workshop in the morning. We hope the learners take away some fantastic strategies that they can use with them in post-16 and the future.

Once again we want to thank them for being kind, working hard and always aiming high.

We want to thank our Year 11 learners who arrived at school today promptly and with a real maturity for the busy two weeks they have ahead of them. This morning they experienced a fantastic talk by Martine Wright, and many found her inspirational and her story interesting. A cheer was also given when they realised it was Mr Seaward hosting the Q&A!

The learners then had a busy afternoon experiencing one of their option subjects for the last time.

Highlights included: stop motion in Media Studies, cracking codes in Computer Science and painting chairs in Art. The day was round off with a final session on goal setting where the learners drew up an action plan for the future.

Tomorrow is another day which puts emphasis on the importance of presentation skills. After having for many their last ever Maths lesson Period 1 they will have a workshop on improving their presentation skills and then work in teams on a project to pitch at the end of the day.

We already can't wait to welcome them back in tomorrow for another full and exciting day!
