May Half Term Art Sessions for Children!🧑🏻‍🎨🎨

Hi folks, I’m opening up my art studio doors this coming May half term with some fun and exclusive professional art sessions for children.

In these fun workshops, children will have the opportunity to paint on professional grade paper with access to my specialist paints and painting tools that I use in my own work to produce their very own masterpieces inspired by the masters, all under my guided tuition.

A wonderful way for children to relax, create and express themselves this half term!

Palette Knife Painting Course

With the summer almost approaching we are now lucky enough to be enjoying some beautiful sunny evenings! And I would like to invite you to join me on my new Wednesday evening palette knife painting summer course in Abbotts Ann.

This fun course explores all the joys and textures of palette knife painting, that will help you to produce highly tactile works of art. Using a palette knife instead of brush will help you to paint more freely and expressively. You will produce a range of painterly studies that will unlock the joy of painting (and maybe your inner Bob Ross too!)

We’ll look at how to mix and apply paint effectively, liberally and texturally with the palette knife, how to enhance compositions with the use of colour theory and gestural mark making, how to work use a variety of professional thickening mediums all whilst gaining wider understanding of the basic principles of impasto. You will build confidence in your application of paint and learn how to plan your colour applications in stages.

Throughout the six 2.5hr sessions, you can choose from a selection of reference images to help you create your very own textured masterpieces. Each person in the class will have complete creative freedom over their painting - whether that’s copying the exact colours from a reference image, or going wild and doing your own thing! You will also have the choice to paint first hand from life. Kelly will support and guide you with however you choose to develop your art.


All the materials and equipment you will need for this six-week course is provided – Your painting surfaces, easel boards, acrylic paints and professional gel/impasto mediums, palette knives and brushes. All you need is yourself! (feel free to bring your own equipment if you wish to use them also!)

Ad hoc/one off date sessions are available at £50 per session.

We’re kicking off 2022 with a Masterclass in Atmospheric Landscape Painting!

Happening tomorrow here in Abbotts Ann where we will be exploring the world of atmospheric landscapes in acrylics, led by professional artist Kelly Jenkins MA RCA.

Have you ever wanted to start painting but haven’t found the time? Or you’ve simply found it too daunting and didn’t know where to begin? Maybe you’re a little rusty and would like to get back into painting again? Or you’re looking to stretch your repertoire of techniques and box of painting tricks?
….Well this one day painting workshop is perfect for you! 🎨

Come and join professional artist Kelly Jenkins and immerse yourself in painting for the day!
She will guide you through some of the basic mechanics of working with acrylics, undoing myths and perceptions of this medium being hard to tackle and introduce you to some her unique and slightly anarchic techniques of approaching acrylics for the first time! You won’t have touched a single brush all day and you will still produce your own masterpiece! We’ll be painting with wood, plastic, card, sponges, rollers, and palette knives, the list goes on! And with Kelly’s relaxed and positive teaching style you are guaranteed to have plenty of fun exploring your inner artist and letting go of any self-doubt in this workshop.

Kelly will share with you some of her close guarded techniques that she adopts in her own art to create energy, texture and atmosphere through light, composition and colour. You don’t have to be an experienced painter to achieve this, just a willingness and curiosity to dive in, explore and let go! ✨

💥THE PEEL IS REAL! 💥
I love taking off my tape to reveal the finished painting, don’t you!

✨These two paintings were done En Plein Air at Anton Lakes last Saturday morning. I used watercolour as my base, then built it up using acrylics and lastly oil pastels for linear texture and depth. Go big with your brushes to start and gradually reduce size towards the end. Keep it loose, keep it free and embrace what’s in front of you!

✨Every Saturday morning 10-1pm, Abbotts Ann Arts is heading out to a beautiful, quiet location surrounding Andover to sketch and paint.

✨So far, our small, socially-distanced group of artists (2-5 people) have visited Stockbridge Down, Rooksbury Mill and Stockbridge Common Marsh!

✨Next Saturday (3rd Oct) we will be at Cowdown Common, Chilbolton.
If you would like to join me and a few other lovely, like minded artists to sketch and paint the beautiful countryside or if you would like a little bit more info of what’s involved and the safety measures I have in place, feel free to email me at [email protected]

✨Each En Plein Air session is £35 payable by BACS prior to the session.
(Pre- sanitised materials and tools are available to use, however artists are encouraged to bring their own equipment).

✨A lightweight folding chair, warm clothes, a sketchbook and a pencil is all you really need to get going. Oh, and a warm flask of tea is also a good idea!

✨No experience needed! Just come along, find a nice spot, breathe in the air and dive straight in to your art! A few hours sitting amongst nature is good for the soul! ✨

Dear Abbotts Ann Arts participants,

My thoughts go out to all of you who have been affected by this unprecedented event regarding the current situation with COVID-19,
Following on from the Government announcement on Monday, Abbotts Ann Arts has taken the decision to suspend all Abbotts Ann Arts classes and workshops for the foreseeable future, and postponing them to at least until the end of the Easter holidays in April. By then we will have a clearer idea of what is happening.

At Abbotts Ann Arts I will always put the well-being of my artists and their families above anything else and I am following the advice from the government to help steer us through unprecedented times.

As I am sure you are aware Abbotts Ann Arts is run by myself, I am a small family operated business. I hope that strong decisive action and a sense of togetherness from the Abbotts Ann Arts community will enable us to get through this difficult time and soon have our classes back up and running for you very soon.

With regards to future term dates of courses and workshops; What's great to know is that I have already thoroughly planned out the next term of classes and have all of the art materials purchased ready to go! So I will update you with any further developments so we can get going again as soon as possible, but please bear with us as we work through this evolving situation.

The good news is that Abbotts Ann Arts won’t be going away! There are going to be a host of online teaching videos, with free demos on techniques, live stream painting classes for you to join in and paint along with me and lots of free activities via my mailing list to ensure you stay creative and inspired at home.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and support and wish you and your family well over the coming weeks.

Most importantly – stay safe, stay positive, stay creative and we will thrive.
