Happy World Book Day Everyone!
Here at Ollie Owls we have had a great time celebrating world book day! All the children and staff had a great time dressing up as their favourite characters across the whole nursery. There has been a wide range of activities across all the rooms, exploring activities linked their books. We even had some of Goldilocks' porridge for pudding, a 'frog spawn' smoothie and a Hungry Caterpillar Charcuterie Board. Thank you to everyone for dressing up and making today so much fun.

Happy Wonderful Wednesday!
Today is our third day of communication week, and the whole nursery has been super busy.
Baby and Little Owl's book of the day is 'Into the Wild', where a child who lives in the city wants to explore the wild. The Baby and Little Owls decided to explore the wild and went on a walk. On their adventure, they saw different wildlife, including many pigeons, a wooden swan, which they had to sit on, and saw lots of ducks flying which guided the Baby and Little Owls into Tesco!

Today is the first day of communication week - Marvellous Monday!
The book Snowy and Barn Owls have been focusing on today is 'The Bear and the Piano.' This book explores music and the bear's travels to the big, bright city to become famous; along with travelling back home to be with his bear friends to celebrate his success.
The Snowy Owls went for a walk this morning to listen to the natural sounds in the environment and what could sound musical around them. Within the book, the bear found a piano in the clearing, well Snowy Owls found a park! They had great fun exploring and making their way to the 'big bright city', as well as walking along the river which the bear took to get back home.
The Barn Owls decided to get the bus to the library to see if they can find some books about music or bears! On their way back to the nursery, they found a park outside the library and had to give it a go. When they got back, the Barn Owls decided to create their own bears with playdough and make their own shakers to become big and famous like the bear.

Last week it was Lunar New Year 2025, the year of the Snake. The Barn Owls have been engaging in a range of activities based around this. The intent of this was for the children to emulsify their senses whilst engaging in activities based around traditions and culture. This was implemented as the children had a range of activities to engage with including, making silly snake soup; which promotes early phonics, lemon/ orange tasting, playdough and making noodles! The children were even able to engage their fine motor skills showing manipulation and control with their fingers and hands pinching and holding the chopsticks steady as they made pasta soup! Well done to all the Barn Owls.

Snowy Owls had a very exciting morning and took the bus to Amersham Library. The children had so much fun waiting for the bus, finding different books to read in the library, playing with duplo provided and hiding in the sensory nook. When coming back to the nursery, the children cheered seeing Ollie Owl Day Nursery, which made the whole bus clap with joy shared with the children. Well done Snowy Owls on this exciting adventure.

Today at Ollie Owls we had a lovely visit from Santa! Santa came in to say hello to everyone, and even gave out presents to all the children who were in today. The children even got a chance to ask Santa for any last minute requests before the big day tomorrow.
We would like to wish everyone a restful break and a happy new year from all of us at Ollie Owls.

Today we had Snowy Owls Christmas Carols. Fun was had by all, with children and parents enjoying some christmas activities, using their lovely singing voices for their carols, and enjoyed a yummy party tea. The children got a chance to say what they would like for Christmas, along with saying what makes them happy. I think Santa is going to be busy this year. We would like to thank everyone who could make it today and our previous Christmas events over the past week.

The children at nursery have super busy participating in Diwali activities. The intent of these activities is to begin to understand different cultures and celebrations. We implemented these activities by providing materials such as clay to create Diya lamps, cardboard tubes, paint and glitter to create fireworks and coloured sand to create a rangoli pattern. The impact was great as the children learnt new vocabulary such as rangoli. Happy Diwali everyone!
