Worksheets and screens? A frayed knot! Maple and Oak took to the woods in their forest sessions today to explore joining techniques. After selecting their rope, and a quick recap, Maple chose their knots and created springy slacklines for all to enjoy! These are now a permanent feature of fun in our woodlands.
With science on the mind, Maple also took on The Fire Triangle Challenge - in groups, they were tasked with collecting resources from the woods before using bow drill and ferro rods to get things started. Needless to say, it has been a wonderful week of learning.

"Those children will remember this forever", a comment shared by a passerby during this year's School Camp!

The annual tradition kicked off with Years 1-5 showcasing their shelter and teamwork skills by pitching tents while Year 6 wrapped up their SATs week (and enjoyed a well-deserved cake at Chesters by the River!)

After school, everyone enjoyed an interactive circus workshop! We started off with a bubble bonanza before learning an abundance of circus skills. The children even came up with their own moves and wowed us all in a performance at the end! We then headed back to school for a tasty, home-cooked tea.

In the evening, Year 6 led activities before we shared local campfire stories and roasted marshmallows! The children then headed off to their tents for a well-deserved rest under the stars!

And there we have it, the conclusion to another sunny, fun-filled weekend at Windermere Science Festival! Thank you again to all who came and showed support, and a special well done and thank you to the children of Langdale who brought everything to life – demonstrating again how our not-so-small school community can have a huge impact!

Day one at Windermere Science Festival was a huge hit! From Jurassic safaris to underwater VR adventures, the day was filled with discovery and fun. Our Year 6 children hosted a series of brilliant learning activities - from creating Cretaceous clay creatures to guiding others through hydration investigations. They led with confidence and knowledge, putting the best of Langdale in full view! Thank you to all who dropped by with kind words and support. It was lovely to see you all! Here’s to day two tomorrow!

Bring on the Summer term! This afternoon, Maple class headed to The Lakes School for a brilliantly hosted hockey tournament. The sportsmanship and camaraderie of the children was inspiring. With the shaking of hands, encouraging words - to each other and their opponents - and positive attitudes, they shone bright. Well done!

What does a Thursday look like in Little Oak? An adventure, of course! With storytelling, crafts and a picnic in paradise, the children had great fun! Linking their maths and literacy with their learning of Easter celebrations, the children went for a walk, discovering patterns, feathers and the perfect picnic place along the way. With the sun shining down, they reflected on what they enjoyed this half term and what they are looking forward to. For so many, it was - of course - the Easter Bunny. So, as we headed back, they hopped along the path, considering the best places to hide their eggs (before an impromptu game of frisbee!) What a pleasure it is to be surrounded by such joy each day 🐰🌳🌤️🪶

Thanks to Gareth from Woodmatters for our guided tour of the National Trust Lake District Common Farm, Windermere today. We connected with nature by sketching the landscape and went on to explore land use and food production in group activities. As well as learning how to stay safe around farms, we used the visit to contextualise the science learning that Maple Class have been doing this half term on animals and habitats; and it was even sunny! 🌤️🐄🐑

Day 2 and Edinburgh didn’t disappoint! With the sun shining, the children ventured to the castle and explored a touch of Scottish history.

We started our morning with some squats and then crafted our own fair trade chocolate bars! Then came the plague! Led by our brilliant tour guide, we headed underground to discover a grizzlier side to the beautiful city.
Then it was dinner time, the children decided they wanted a pizza party for their final night - so with a board game room, patio party, film den, and salon great fun was had! Next up, Matilda!
