🎨 WEEK 9 IN THE BAY - Acrylics & Charcoal 🌊

Week 9 marked the exciting start of our Acrylics module, and what a fantastic week it was! Our talented students created stunning mixed-media masterpieces titled β€˜In The Bay’. πŸ–ŒοΈβœ¨

Inspired by the coast, students explored texture, atmosphere and depth through a combination of collage and paint. Using old newspaper, gesso, acrylic and charcoal, they built up beautifully layered coastal scenes, experimenting with different materials and techniques to create incredible surface interest and expressive effects.

This project encouraged our students to really experiment, make creative decisions and embrace the unexpected, and the results were phenomenal! 🌊🎨

Every single piece was unique, artistic and full of character, with our students developing a fantastic new skill set along the way. The textured finishes and atmospheric coastal scenes were simply stunning!

Fabulous work, everyone, what a truly creative and inspiring week! πŸ‘πŸŽ¨πŸ’™

Students also explored the expressive qualities of watercolour, using layered colour, texture and light to bring their paintings to life.

Every piece is unique, full of personality and creativity. It's been such a pleasure to watch everyone's confidence grow, and the standard of work on display this week has been absolutely outstanding. The paintings are vibrant, fresh and full of the joy of summer.

Week 7 – Urban Sketching! πŸ™οΈβœοΈπŸŽ¨

This week our students took on the exciting challenge of Urban Sketching. Learning to draw quickly, confidently and expressively while capturing the character and atmosphere of a scene.

Using techniques such as perspective, negative space, and loose observational drawing, everyone was encouraged to let go of perfection, trust the process, and sketch with greater freedom using pencil and fine liner before bringing their work to life with beautiful watercolour washes.

Urban sketching is all about observation rather than detail, helping artists build confidence, develop faster drawing skills, and create artwork full of energy and personality.

The results were simply wonderful and every piece was unique, expressive and full of character. We are so proud of how everyone embraced the challenge and stepped outside their comfort zone.

πŸ‘ Beautiful work, everyone! We can't wait to see what Week 8 brings.

🎨 Week 4 and one of my personal favourites of the Summer Term! πŸŒΎβ˜€οΈ

This week our students created stunning Beach Dunes landscapes using rich, vibrant oil pastels. Working within an elegant oval format, they discovered how this unique composition naturally draws the eye towards the distant horizon, creating a wonderful sense of depth and space.

Layers of beautifully blended oil pastels were used to capture the soft golden dunes beneath an atmospheric blue-violet sky. The richness of the colours and the smooth blending techniques produced some truly outstanding effects, with every piece showcasing the individuality and creativity of its artist.

Both our returning students and new students produced artwork of an exceptionally high standard πŸ‘

Our talented artists at both Bournheath Village Hall, Bromsgrove and Rowney Green Village Hall, Alvechurch nr Redditch enjoyed another inspiring week of creativity.

Our returning students built on the water studies they began in Week 1, this time using watercolour pencils. The theme, Synchronised Swimmers, challenged everyone to blend colours carefully to create a beautiful range of subtle skin tones. It was wonderful to see confidence growing as techniques developed and each artwork began to take on its own unique character.

We’ve been a little quiet on here lately… but for a very good reason πŸ‘€βœ¨
A bit of behind the scenes housekeeping has meant we’re now ready to catch up properly!

Over the next few days we’ll be sharing all the wonderful work we’ve missed starting with:

🎨 Week 1 highlights

Week 1 saw all our returners and new students arrive in class ready to take on the challenges and delights of the summer term πŸ’›

Our new students tackled those cheeky chickens and tasty tea cups πŸ”β˜• while our returners explored a water study titled β€œRipple & Flow” using watercolour pencils.

Studying water in its different states and lighting conditions helped students build confidence with watercolour techniques, and prepared the groundwork for more complex water-based subjects later in the term.

A brilliant first week and it was so lovely to see everyone back in class creating again 🎨✨
