Today 16 students from Y8 & 9 STEM club ventured to Manchester University to take part in the Great Science Share for Schools. Students shared the projects we have been running at our weekly STEM club looking at detritivores and habitats, and a simulation of our moth catching at last year's STEM sleepover. Mrs Hulme is exceptionally proud of how articulate and enthusiastic our students were. Well done, STEM club!

Thank you to all who did their civic duty by voting in the Citizenship Chocolate Election at our annual open event yesterday. With a turnout of 340, and 7 spoiled ballots, the result was a close one! Exit polls suggested a strong leaning towards flavour over campaign slogan, with a radical Creme Egg majority!

A fabulous turn out for our Open Evening last night despite the rain. We are very proud of our students who were very busy taking families around the school on tours.

Yesterday 6 Y9 pupils travelled to Lancaster University to compete in the Regional Finals of the MFL Translation Bee. It was a very long but very exciting day! Pupils had one minute to accurately translate as many sentences as possible from English into French, German or Spanish. It was a fierce and tense competition, with the finalists from schools across the north of England competing.
I’m delighted to let you know that five of our Y9 pupils have qualified for the National Finals in Cambridge on the 24 June. The whole team worked so hard and really supported each other. They were a delight to spend the day with and a real credit to the school.
Congratulations / Glückwünsch! / félicitations! / ¡felicitaciones!

The Y11 netball team took part in the Greater Manchester County Schools on Saturday, not only did they win the tournament, but they were also undefeated throughout the whole day 😊
It was a fantastic way to round off the netball season and for some of them their last ever netball match as an AGGS student.

We are delighted to share with you the amazing success of our MFL Spellers who ventured to Liverpool University yesterday for the Regional Spelling Bee Competition.
Ayana (German), Manha (French) and Nikki (Spanish) took part in an extremely exciting Regional final in which 29 regional finalists from over 1,500 competitors competed for the coveted prizes in German, French and Spanish Spelling. Competitors were given a minute to correctly translate and spell as many words as they could in German, French or Spanish. Competition was extremely high and tension and excitement were palpable and despite some very tense 'tie breakers'.
We were delighted with their amazing efforts! Manha came second for French and Nikki came third for Spanish. This means that they are now through to the National Final Competition in Cambridge in June. This is an amazing achievement!

On Saturday, our Y12 Friends of MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières) committee attended the annual MSF conference in London. Most universities have a Friends of MSF committee, run and attended by medical students; however, our group is the only school-based one in the country.
For their fundraising efforts this year, they were awarded the “Skydiving award” for taking chances on event ideas, beating out other entries from university students.
