Calling all Year 13 parents!

Is a gap year the right career move for your child?
We are pleased to announce we will be holding our inaugural Yipiyap Parent Gap Year Q&A session with our Opportunities Director Cath Devaney on 27th April 6:30-7pm.

What to expect?
Cath will talk about the pros and cons of taking a Gap Year, who should, who shouldn’t and everything else any parent of a Year 13 considering a year out should know.

More about Cath:
Cath is a parent of two children, one of whom took a Gap Year and the other a direct route to University. Cath is also an ex-Assistant Head teacher, with experience of in-school tutoring, so she is in a prime position to have an open discussion with parents about the benefits of a Gap Year for young students and how it can be a positive step forward on their career path.

Year 13 pupils thinking about a gap year between school and university were offered some career-building opportunities by school-in-support company Yipiyap

Regional Director Jennifer Haynes outlined how a year with them can help boost a student's confidence, employability, and also bank balance before they finally go off to university.

The organisation places bright and enthusiastic pupils in local state schools, mainly to give one to one or small group support to struggling pupils.

We enjoyed contributing again to the ongoing debate on how our nation’s pupils and students can catch up on their missed learning. Our CEO Anne Morris thinks that learning happens most effectively when young people are happy which means that it is crucial for the catch-up tuition to be done right.

We wanted to give them the opportunity to get their teeth into something else, something in addition to the already brilliant work they are doing, be that in-school or on-line. Read here what Lara thought of the program...
