Exam season is creeping up… and yes, the pressure is starting to build

If your child is feeling a bit overwhelmed with maths right now, they are definitely not alone. This is the point where gaps start to show and confidence can dip.

To help, we are running a Foundation Maths Revision Workshop on Wednesday 8th April.

Small group. Calm environment. Proper support.

We will be covering:
• Fractions, decimals and percentages
• Ratio and standard form
• Algebra, equations and quadratics
• And, most importantly, how to actually apply it all in exam-style questions

We’ve been exploring silent letters this week, particularly the silent b at the end of words like lamb and climb.

We noticed this often appears in words that sound like they end in m.

The children were really curious about why… so I did a bit of digging!

It turns out that in the past, these letters were actually pronounced, but over time the sounds have disappeared while the spelling has stayed the same.

Strange to imagine saying 'lam-buh'

One way to make sense of it is to look at word families. For example, in crumble you can hear the b, which might help say the b in 'crumb'.

I love these sorts of interesting facts about our language but I don't love that it makes spelling really hard!
