Thinking about booking a trial lesson but not sure what to expect? Here’s what it’s actually like.

Your first lesson is an opportunity for your tutor to get to know you or your child - what you’re hoping to achieve, what you enjoy listening to, any experience you’ve had before. There’s no pressure to perform. This lesson is designed to be a first introduction to the instrument for beginners and an opportunity to learn more about your experience if you’ve played before.

Your tutor will usually run through a few different things - this might be musical games for younger students, a short piece to learn, or working on something you’re currently learning. It’s an opportunity for your tutor to show you their teaching style and what it would be like to learn with them on a regular basis.

We usually always recommend starting with a trial lesson - it’s a brilliant way to try things out, get a feel for our studios and most importantly, see whether the tutor is the right fit for you. Finding the right tutor makes all the difference to your learning journey.

Why is September a great time to start music lessons?

September brings a new term, new timetable and the opportunity to build new habits. It always feels like a fresh start and we love the enthusiasm and energy in our studios at this time of year.

Whether your child has been asking for lessons for a while, or you’re an adult who’s always wanted to learn, September is the perfect time to get started! This year, we have lots of brand new schedules starting over the next few weeks, so now is the time to get booked into what has been a mostly fully booked schedule over the last couple of years!

Trial lessons are a great way to get started - there’s no pressure, no commitment and just a chance to meet your tutors and get a feel for what lessons would be like.

After a wonderful summer break (and a busy couple of weeks of holiday clubs!), our studios in Altrincham and Wilmslow are reopening tomorrow and we could not be more excited to welcome everyone back.

September is almost here and if you’ve been thinking about lessons, now really is the time to get in touch.

Spaces at both our Altrincham and Wilmslow studios are filling up quickly for the new academic year. We work with over 45 amazing tutors who are all specialists at tailoring each lesson to the individual student. Whether you want to learn jazz sax or are looking for a classical singing tutor, we’ll find the right tutor for you.

⭐🎼 Tutor Feature: Julie Power 🎼⭐

This week’s ‘Tutor Feature’ is an extra special one, as we’re celebrating one of our wonderful singing tutors, Julie, who got married last weekend to her husband, Andy. Congratulations to Julie and Andy - we hope you have an amazing honeymoon and can’t wait to hear all about it when we’re back in the studios in September!

Originally from Waterford in Ireland, Julie Power began her studies at the Irish College of Music Theatre where she graduated with a diploma in Musical Theatre. She then went on to do a BFA in Musical Theatre at The American College Dublin, graduating with First Class Honours.

During her studies she took courses in vocal anatomy, music theory and physicality in performance which have all informed her teaching style, as well as the wealth of experience she has as a performer. Some of her credits include: various Gilbert and Sullivan productions with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company (UK Tour), Julie Jordan in Carousel at the National Concert Hall Dublin and originating the role of Eva in a new Irish musical Find Your Way Home which toured in the US in Albany, Boston and New York.

Julie is passionate about teaching what she loves and aims to create a supportive and nurturing environment for her students by taking a holistic approach and encouraging them to find their own voice.

Julie teaches at the Altrincham studios on Mondays and Fridays.

We’re somehow on the 4th week of the summer holidays and September is just around the corner!

Every year we have enquiries from students in September who have missed out on their ideal lesson slot.

If you’re thinking about starting lessons at Aura in September, or your child is returning and you’d like to discuss their schedule, now is the time to get in touch. A quick note for anyone trying to get in touch with us this week.

Both Beth and Seren are taking a well-earned break from Friday 8th August and the studios are closed until Thursday 13th August. During this time emails and phone calls won’t be monitored, so please bear with us if you’re waiting to hear back.

We’ll be back on Thursday 13th and will respond to all messages as quickly as we can.

Six weeks off school sounds amazing, until you’re a parent trying to keep practice going without it turning into a daily battle!

Whilst the holidays are a time to step back from daily routine and relax, it can also be an great time to enjoy playing your instrument, learning new pieces and listening to new songs too.

Here are a few tips to help with practising over the summer:

- Little and often beats one long session every time. Even 5-10 minutes a day keeps things moving along.

- Enjoy playing what you want to this summer - not just what you’re supposed to be working on! The summer break is a great time to rediscover what you love about playing your instrument.

- If you’re working towards a grade exam in the autumn/winter term, aim to play through your pieces a few times each week to keep them fresh.

- Have a look online for local concerts you could go to - aim to get inspired by listening to professional musicians!

We’re back in September and can’t wait to see everyone in the studios. But before then, enjoy the break and happy practising!

While the studios are on their summer break, we wanted to introduce you to someone who keeps Aura running behind the scenes and who is holding the fort at Aura for most of the summer holidays.

Meet Seren, our Administrator. 👋

Seren is the friendly voice you’ll often hear when you call the studio and the person making sure everything runs smoothly day to day. From lesson scheduling and student queries to exam admin and September bookings, Seren does an enormous amount to keep Aura operating.

The good news for anyone looking to book lessons or ask questions this summer - Seren is in the studios Monday-Friday and she’s ready to help.

Whether you’re interested in joining us in September, want to ask about holiday club spaces, or just have a question about your child’s lessons, drop us a message or give us a call and Seren will get back to you as soon as she can.
