Yvonne brings over 12 years of piano teaching experience to Aura, along with a genuine passion for the instrument that goes far beyond the classroom.
Originally from Hong Kong, Yvonne ran her own education centre there before relocating to Manchester in 2022 - specialising in piano tuition for children across a wide range of ages and abilities.

Yvonne believes that music education has the power to build confidence, discipline and creativity in young people, and she takes real pride in helping every student develop both their technical skills and their love of music.

In her lessons you'll find a warm, encouraging environment where students feel genuinely supported and inspired to keep going.

'I'm struggling get my child to practise'.

It's one of the things we hear most from parents at some point in their child's learning journey. If it's something you're struggling with, you're in good company.

Here's what we've found actually works:

🎶Keep it short. Five to ten minutes a day is far more effective than a big session the night before their lesson. Even a few scales in the morning before school can help to break up a practice session.

🎶Reward charts work. They really do! Whether it's a set number of sessions per week or learning a specific section of a piece - a small incentive goes a long way.

🎶Try recording their playing at the start of the week, then again at the end. Progress is hard to see from the inside, but watching themselves back can be genuinely motivating - for both children and parents.

🎶Help them to set a goal. Exams, student concerts, playing for a grandparent - having something to work towards often focuses the mind in a way that 'just keep practising' doesn't.

🎶And if they sometimes sit down and just mess around, playing their own thing? Let them. They're exploring, creating and falling in love with their instrument. That's not wasted time - it might even be the most valuable practice of all.

⭐🎼 Tutor Feature: Mari-Carmen Morris 🎼⭐

Mari-Carmen is a British-Spanish violinist and violist based in Manchester. Growing up in Spain, she was a student of the Barenboim Said Academy in Seville. She later moved to the UK to study as a specialist musician at the Wells Cathedral School.

She is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. Alongside her role at Aura Music Academy, Mari-Carmen is a tutor at RNCM Young Strings and an ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation. She is a passionate educator who has previously worked for the Junior Conservatoire of Scotland and Glasgow City Council’s CREATE programme.

Mari-Carmen actively strives to deepen her knowledge both in her teaching and instrumental practice. Her enthusiasm for music education is evident to those who know her, something she hopes to share with the students and community at Aura Music Academy.

📋 Exam entries
We're busy submitting all Term 3 exam entries to the exam boards this week. Best of luck to all exam students! Our ABRSM and RSL exams are taking place right here at our Altrincham studios in July. Sitting your exam in a space you already know and feel comfortable in makes such a difference and we're really proud to offer that to our students.

🏫 Something new this September
We're reaching out to local schools this week about something we're really excited about - Aura is launching an in-school tuition service this September! We'll be bringing expert music tuition directly into schools, making lessons even more accessible for children. If you're a teacher, head, or school staff member and want to find out more, we'd love to hear from you.

📅 September timetable
It might only be May but we're already deep in planning for September. There are lots of moving parts but we want everything in place so the new term runs smoothly from day one.

✈️ A little shoutout
Our wonderful administrator Seren is heading off to New York from Wednesday to celebrate her friend's wedding. We hope you have the most fabulous time, Seren! We'll try not to miss you too much. 🗽🥂

Our summer holiday clubs are officially open for bookings, and we wanted to take a moment to explain what we actually do - because we think it's a bit different to your typical holiday club 🎶🌞

Each week is built around a theme, and the children spend the four days rehearsing and performing scenes from that theme, acting, singing, dancing, with a proper performance on the Friday afternoon for family and friends to come and watch. It's not just a fun week (though it is that too!) It's a week where children come away having learned something, grown in confidence, and often made friends they keep coming back for.

Our tutor team are musical theatre specialists, all DBS checked, and we always have a Safeguarding Lead and First Aider on site. We cap each club at 30 children because we'd rather do it properly than take everyone.

This August we have two weeks:

🎵 Week 1 - K-Pop Takeover: 18th–21st August
🌺Week 2 - Lilo & Stitch: 25th–28th August

No experience needed for either. We get children of all abilities and confidence levels, and our tutors work with everyone at their own pace. If your child is nervous about coming alone, please don't worry don't worry - we have lots of children who sign up but don’t know anyone else at the club and by the end of the week they’ve made friends for life!

We offer a limited number of individual day bookings at £36 per day. We design each day so it works as a standalone session, while still contributing to the Friday showcase for those attending the full week.

Pricing: £125 for the full week, £36 for individual days (limited spaces). 20% sibling discount. You can secure a place with a £45 deposit if you'd prefer not to pay in full upfront.
