Art can help us make sense of, to shape and to share our lives and experiences. And what an extraordinary experience we have been through this year...

We are inviting students and teachers to submit their writing and visual art for a digital anthology ‘Unmute, Unmask and Unlock’, marking a moment in time where we are emerging from lockdown, reconnecting with ourselves and each other. It promises to be very special as we admit what we have been through and celebrate who we are #EduArtsFest #poetry #art #creativity #bettertogether #selfdiscovery #creativeworkshop

There are some key moments in a school year which create a variety of emotions for all concerned and Friday was one of them as we said our goodbyes to Orange Year and the end of their formal education.

The cohort of 2021 have had to face far too many disruptions and uncertainties around their education but staff at Amery Hill could not feel any prouder in the way they have risen to each challenge, found an inner strength and resilience to tackle every obstacle and leave knowing that they have had every opportunity to showcase their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.

Our school motto, ‘Education for Life’, underpins everything we do and as we say farewell to the Class of 2021, we wish them every success and happiness for the future.

It was a pleasure to welcome North Hampshire’s Army Cadet Leader to school today to meet a group of Year 8 students to tell them about the activities the Cadets offer and share some of the benefits of participating - Fun, Friendship, Action and Adventure! With so many of their activities outdoors, the Cadets have been able to reconvene after lockdown faster than other agencies, and several students expressed an interest in signing up to attend some taster sessions. Thank you for visiting! Army Cadets UK #educationforlife

It was messy but so much fun! Our Year 7 Eco-Union members put the finishing touches on their planter for this year’s Alton Creative Community Planters Project. The enthusiasm, creativity and energy of the team has been fabulous and every part of the planter is reclaimed or reused; we did not buy anything. #AmeryEcoUnion #EducationForLife Alton Town Council Alton News

With work due to begin on the complete refurbishment of one of our Science labs in less than two weeks time, we would like to express our sincere thanks to donors to the Amery Hill School Trust, past and present, for supporting this project.

Science 5 is one of our oldest Science rooms and is in need of attention to make it into a modern, welcoming teaching space that will help to inspire students about the study of science. All of the old furniture will be stripped out (including the wood panelling and roller blackboards!) and the room layout will be changed to meet the requirements of teaching today’s Science curriculum. This is an exciting development and a significant investment for the benefit of all our students.

When students return to school, the room will have been transformed into a light, fresh, uncluttered and welcoming teaching space. The new desks will all be equipped with an integral gas supply and electrical sockets, allowing all students to participate in practical lessons and develop their interest and curiosity in different scientific disciplines.

We are incredibly grateful to the generous contribution from the Amery Hill Trust, which has allowed this project to take place. Funds allowing, we hope to continue the refurbishment of the Science Department later this year. If you would like to make a donation to the School Trust, please visit our website at https://www.ameryhill.hants.sch.uk/203/school-trust. Thank you!
