We have had a great start to the term, the children have settled well and are back into the routines ready for learning.

Thank you for all your efforts supporting our school uniform. The children look so smart and first impressions really are very important. Children need wellies (and sun hats on warm days) to enable them to enjoy our wonderful outdoor environment. Please remember to name everything!

All PE lessons and swimming for Rowan & Larch begin this Tuesday as well as after school football club. Please see the Autumn PE arrangement letter from Miss Moffet for timings and further details. Our new NUF coach is one of our former pupils, Thomas Slack and it will be lovely to welcome him back. The children attending the football club will have had their place confirmed by the office. The football clubs have been scheduled on the same day as class PE lessons so the children attending will already be in their PE kit.

Please make sure that all earrings are removed. Earrings can be very dangerous to young children during playtimes and PE sessions. They can also pose a danger to other children who may stand on them if dropped. School will not be responsible for accidents or loss of earrings. Tape is only acceptable if a piercing is unhealed. Please do not get your child’s ears pierced during the school year.

The children have wasted no time in getting on with learning and we have been particularly impressed with Hallie D, Olivia R, Emily H, Rudy M, Leela W-H, Ollie R, MJ P, Olivia G, Daisy Mc, Lexie S, Imogen O, Alice B – our first stars of the week for 2021 / 22. Well done everyone, an electronic certificate will be with you soon.

Music to make you happy comes from James B who loves anything Disney. Here’s How far I’ll Go from Moana. A great tune to get us all going in the mornings next week!

Welcome back to the new school year, we are really looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday. We hope you have all enjoyed the summer break and made the most of the lovely sunny weather we are now experiencing, it always makes the return to school easier.

As usual we have been busy during the holiday upgrade facilities; the key stage 1 and lower key stage 2 corridors have had a coat of paint and have been carpeted and they now look fabulous.

It will take a few days to reinforce the routines such as handwashing, following our one-way system when moving around inside the building and maintaining the staggered break and lunch times but by the end of the week we hope that everything will be running like clockwork.

We hope you received the update letter sent last week with all the details of our new regime – a copy is available on the website in case you missed it. Look out for the newsletter which should be with you in the next few days.

Take care and keep safe.

Bye for now

So far so good, we have reached the last week of term and on the whole we’re still standing. Unfortunately, last week we have had two members of staff contacted through Test and Trace, consequently we have been relying on the flexibility of staff to cover all classes and to keep the bubbles going. Please bear with us and hopefully we’ll get to Friday with all children in school.

On Thursday morning, Year 5 took part in their Olympic morning. They worked their way around a carousel of 8 different activities, collecting thousands of points for their castle teams. They all tried extremely hard in very warm, muggy conditions.

The points they have been awarded have been added to the scores from the LKS2 Olympics. The winning castle will be announced after the Year 6 event next week.

So far, the standings are:

Alnwick Castle - 3455 points
Bamburgh Castle - 3302 points
Warkworth Castle - 3281 points
Dunstanburgh Castle - 3143 points
Well done to each and every child who has competed!

Other important events to note this week are:

Reception picnic in the park will now take place on WEDNESDAY 14th JULY. Please note the new date because of a poor weather forecast for Monday. Please wear school uniform and ensure children have a waterproof jacket and a sun hat and water bottle as well as packed lunch if bringing from home
‘Getting to know you’ meetings on Tuesday morning - Attempt 2!
On Tuesday afternoon we have the last swimming session for Sycamore and Larch classes.
Nursery new starters story sessions are scheduled for Tuesday at 9.30am and 1.30pm and Thursday at 1.30pm
Maple class trip to Clarty Comandos is on Wednesday and Willow class are going on Thursday.
UKS2 Adventure Activity Days: Year 6 on Wednesday and Year 5 on Thursday. Please make sure children are in school and ready to be registered for 8:30am and refer to the kit list for appropriate clothing making sure that the children have a change of clothes. We aim to be back at school around 4:30 and will keep parents updated.
Year 6 will be taking part in their Olympics on Thursday morning – please come to school in PE kit.
The final group of Year 6 children will be completing Level 3 Bikeability on Thursday afternoon - letters have been sent out to those involved.
As usual at the end of term we’ll be sending home books and children’s belongings.

Northumberland’s Libraries have launched this year's Summer Reading Challenge: Wild World Heroes. Join six fictional ‘wild heroes’ as they tackle real-world environmental issues and help to save the planet. Visit the Northumberland County Council website for more information and to find out how to sign up for your free adventure pack.

Special message from Mrs Grimes: There was only one choice for music to make you happy and this week it has been chosen especially for Mrs Smith. We can’t have an end of summer term without a bit of Cliff! Here’s hoping that next July, we can play it in the school hall once again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xddl8fpf2uA

This week our stars of the week are: Artie P, Rudy M, Daisy B, Aiden A, Cillian G, Tegan N, Evan I, Sofia B, Sophie H, Frankie P, Holly E and Jacob J. Well done everyone, an electronic certificate will be with you soon.

Have a super last week and enjoy your summer holidays. We are looking forward to seeing the children on Wednesday 8th September.

Take care and stay safe.

With only two weeks to go until we break up for the summer holiday we are focused on getting all of the end of term jobs done. Reports will be sent home on Monday, please note that the attendance figure is based on the sessions when school was fully open and no COVID related absence is included.

Weather permitting, we have planned outdoor ‘Getting to know me’ meetings on Tuesday so that the children can spend some time with their new class teachers and friends. We’ll reschedule if it rains but we will find time for this priority event before the holidays.

Every year we are always overwhelmed by the generosity of parents however as we are still adhering COVID restrictions we are requesting that you don’t bring gifts into school for staff this summer.

There are yet more Bikeability sessions scheduled for this week in UKS2 - letters have been sent to parents of those children participating. Again please check that the children’s bikes are roadworthy and remind your child to enter the school site via the Park Gate, parking their bike in the allocated ‘zones’ on the school field.

On Wednesday (year 2) and Thursday (year 1) key stage 1 children will be ‘Mudlarking’ on Boulmer Beach, please remember packed lunches, sun cream and appropriate clothing.

Researchers from the ‘Food Connects’ project are coming into school on Thursday afternoon to talk with our Senior Students. Remember that parents can take part in virtual consultation sessions as well – dates are listed in the newsletter.

On Thursday morning the year 5 children will be competing in their Olympics as part of the Castle Challenge - please ensure the children come to school in their outdoor PE kit.

This week’s music to make you happy is chosen by Ollie R in Ash Class - Blister in the Sun. Get your guitars at the ready!

Last week we have been particularly impressed with: Lottie B, Libby M, Franklin S, Daisy O, James B, Sophie T, Freya R, Daisy McA, Finley P, Olivia L, Callum A, Theo F and Mary F; our stars of the week. Well done everyone, an electronic certificate will be with you soon.

We’re certainly working at full speed from now until the summer holidays in order to give the children lots of exciting experiences and to complete all the necessary business such as class organisation for September (which will be shared with parents on Monday 28th June) and annual reports (which will be sent home on Monday 5th July).

Unfortunately, this week we have had three members of staff contacted through Test and Trace, consequently we are running the school office remotely and asking parents to communicate by email if at all possible. After such a difficult school year we really want everyone to be able to have an enjoyable summer holiday rather than having to self-isolate. Once again, I ask for your ongoing support in keeping our school community safe and our bubbles floating by following the current guidelines.

On Thursday morning, LKS2 took part in their Olympic morning. They worked their way around a carousel of 8 different activities, collecting thousands of points for their castle teams. They all tried extremely hard in very warm, muggy conditions.

The points they have been awarded will be carried forward and added to at the points earned at the Year 5 and Year 6 Olympics, which are taking part in the last week. The winning castle will be announced after the Year 6 event.

So far, the standings are:

1. Bamburgh Castle - 2296 points

2. Alnwick Castle - 2253 points

3. Warkworth Castle - 2201 points

4. Dunstanburgh Castle - 1986 points

Well done to each and every child who competed from Years 3 and 4!

Other important events to note this week are:

Mr Rogers and Mr Wilson AKA “The Co-heads”, are visiting our year 6 children on Friday as part of their transition to high school.

Chestnut class trip to Clarty Comandos is on Thursday.

Sycamore class will be taking part in Bikeability on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that bikes are roadworthy and remind your child to enter the school site via the Park Gate, parking their bike in the allocated ‘zones’ on the school field.

KS 1 and Early Years will be taking part in their Olympics on Monday and Tuesday afternoons respectively.

Yet again this week we are awaiting the government’s announcement about the further easing of COVID restrictions but in the meantime please can I ask your support for the current measures that we have in place. Please remember to leave bags at home and to put packed lunches into disposable bags.

Larch Class will be doing their Bikeability level 1 and 2 courses on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that bikes are roadworthy and remind your child to enter the school site via the Park Gate, parking their bike in the allocated ‘zones’ on the school field.

Once again the school has been entered in the Northumbria in Bloom competition so we will be getting our gardening gloves on and making every effort to impress the judges. Please bring in any spare plants for either the flower beds or the allotment.

Next week we will be starting the Art Project, please ensure that your child has brought in a rock for painting – these should look brilliant in our outdoor environment.

Thank you for making the pom poms for the high school’s Pride Project – I’m sure that you agree with me that the completed rainbow looks fabulous (click on the links below).

The newsletter will be with you shortly but in the meantime here are a few notices.

The new menu starts on Tuesday with our Great British favourite Shepherd’s Pie, the big difference will be the puddings (and the return of school custard) as we are able to fully open the servery.

The updated risk assessment (version 10) is available on the website, the main change allows for school trips.

Please remember that PE coaching sessions and swimming will be up and running straight away so check the allocated days. Mrs Nicklen will be in for instrument tuition on Wednesday.

During the week before the half term the following children really impressed us: Eryn A, Katy H Finnley R, George B, Oscar Mc, Robyn S, Dylan A, Henry R, Edward B, Archie M and Isla G. Keep up the good work and look out for your electronic certificates which will be winging their way to you.

Well we’ve nearly made it to half term and last week we have enjoyed a slight easing in the COVID restrictions and the children have been delighted to play with more friends within their phase. We have started to review our lunchtime procedures with our older children now collecting their meals from the hatch. After half term we’ll be introducing an exciting new menu – watch out for further information in the June newsletter.

On Wednesday we’ll be taking class photos and a year 6 leavers photo outdoors, let’s hope for reasonable weather!

Just a quick reminder that the swimming groups change this week. Sycamore and Rowan will be swimming while Larch class will have a coaching session with NUF.

Congratulations to Rowan class for being our highest scoring class in the National Numeracy Day Sumdog Competition, a fabulous team effort - well done! A special mention must also go to George M and Luke B for managing to answer all of their 1000 allocated questions - great job!

Well done Fraser A (and Dad!) for making a fabulous snake garden ornament - look carefully in amongst the sunflowers to find it! The High School will be collecting any pom poms for their giant rainbow - please bring any completed pom poms to the office on Monday for collection.

This week’s music to make you happy is chosen by Leo and Alex M-S and is a bit of an earworm. But, you’ll enjoy it!
