The Night Before School

Red uniforms laid out just right,
Crisp collars glowing in the light.
Labels going on late into the night,
While socks roll up in a giggly fight.
Pencils packed, water bottles too,
And someone’s still lost one school shoe!

Bags by the door, alarms all set,
“Have you packed your PE kit yet?”
Lunchboxes snap with a click and a clack,
While shiny new shoes wait in a row by the mat.
A little excitement, a few butterflies too,
As everyone wonders what tomorrow will do.

Meanwhile at Newton, teachers have planned
Exciting new starts with everything at hand.
Classrooms are ready, books are in place,
With bright, welcoming displays in every space.
And they can’t wait to see each familiar face.

So sleep well tonight, a new year’s begun,
With learning, laughter, friendship and fun.
Newton is ready, the doors open wide —
And we can’t wait to welcome you back inside.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge is running in all Derbyshire libraries until 12th September! Delivered by The Reading Agency, in partnership with libraries and supported by Universal Music Group UK, this year’s theme is “Read to the Beat”.
The challenge is to read or share six books or more before it ends - there are six stickers to collect and, once the challenge is completed, children receive a medal and certificate.
Derbyshire libraries are hosting a variety of activities over the holidays linked to the reading challenge which can be found on the ‘What’s On’ section of the libraries’ website https://ow.ly/cZ9t50ZiyIi.
