After 12 years of dedicated service, we say the biggest thank you to our Chair of Governors, John Glasby, as he retires from his role at Alfreton Park School.
John has been instrumental in shaping the school we know today. Over the last decade, his leadership, vision and unwavering commitment to our pupils and families have helped make some truly transformational developments happen, including our swimming pool and our new school building.
John's approach to leadership has never been conventional, and that's exactly why it worked. He has always been driven by passion, determination and an absolute commitment to doing what is right for our school community. He challenged thinking, encouraged ambition and never accepted that something couldn't be done simply because it hadn't been done before.
On a personal level, I owe John an enormous debt of gratitude. He has taught me so many things over the years, but the greatest lesson has been to think differently, to look beyond the obvious and to find solutions where others see barriers. In John’s words, “think outside the box!”
I know I speak for Emma and myself, and no doubt for our predecessor Cheryl too, when I say that the opportunities he gave us, and the confidence he placed in us, are things we will be eternally grateful for.
As we celebrate John's incredible contributions, we would also like to say thank you to four other governors who are retiring from the governing board. Our Vice Chair, Bill, and fellow governors Francine, Richard and Becky. Collectively, they have given many years of time, expertise, challenge and support to the school. Last week's governing board meeting was an emotional one, with more than a few teary eyes around the table as we reflected on everything they have helped us achieve together.
We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to Alfreton Park School and the difference they have made to the lives of our pupils and families, and we look forward to celebrating with all 5 of them together with staff and pupils in school in October.
While their contributions can never truly be measured, their impact can be seen every day in the experiences of the children, families and staff who benefit from the legacy they will leave behind. We know they will be no strangers and look forward to seeing them at school events in the future!
Thank you, John, Bill, Francine, Richard and Becky, for your years of dedication, friendship, wisdom and support. Alfreton Park School is a better place because of each of you, and we wish you every happiness in the next chapter.
As one chapter closes, another begins. We are excited about the future and look forward to welcoming our new members of our governing board in September, as we continue building on the strong foundations that have been laid over many years.
Watch this space! 💚✨
