We are delighted to congratulate our parents and carers who, having previously completed their Level 1 training, have now successfully achieved their Level 2 Makaton qualification. Their commitment to developing their communication skills will continue to have a positive impact on their families and support meaningful communication at home.
We also had the pleasure of delivering three Makaton Awareness sessions to the teams at SC Travel and AHS Cars, who transport our pupils to and from school each day. By learning key Makaton signs and symbols, they are helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the children and young people they work with. As part of the training, they were also provided with Widgit symbols to support pupils' communication and understanding during their journeys.
Makaton is a unique communication programme that uses signs, symbols and speech to support communication, language development and understanding. It can help people of all ages to express themselves, build confidence and engage more effectively with the world around them.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the training sessions and continues to use Makaton to support our pupils and families. Your enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to learn help make communication more accessible for all ππ

π WE ARE AWARD WINNERS! π¨
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Alfreton Park School has been named a The Big Draw Festival Awards 2025 Winner! π
The Big Draw Festival is a global celebration of creativity and drawing, and this year marked its incredible 25th anniversary under the theme 'Drawn Together' β all about creativity, collaboration and connection. We are so proud to be recognised alongside outstanding organisations from around the world, from Inverness to St Louis.
This year's winners were chosen by a distinguished judging panel including Catherine Ritman-Smith (Head of Learning and Engagement at Young V&A and V&A East), Jane Sillis (former Director of Engage), and Narinder Sagoo (architect, artist and Senior Partner at Foster + Partners).
The 'Big Draw Schools Award' is a true reflection of the creativity, dedication and community spirit shown by our wonderful pupils, staff and families. Drawing and creativity play such an important role in our school, and we are so proud to see that recognised on a national stage. ποΈβ€οΈ
