Customer service in general practice can be challenging, particularly when patients are frustrated, anxious or unhappy with access to services.

Strong communication skills can make a significant difference.

First impressions, active listening, clear explanations and recognising the early signs of conflict can all help prevent situations from escalating.

When conversations do become difficult, it is important to stay calm, listen carefully and understand what may be driving the frustration. Using open questions, showing empathy and communicating assertively can help create a safer and more constructive conversation.

Feedback and complaints can also provide valuable insight into where communication or processes may need to improve, helping practices strengthen the overall patient experience.

Day 2 at Best Practice Birmingham and what a brilliant couple of days it’s been!

It’s been great to meet so many of you, catch up with familiar faces and have so many conversations about the work happening across primary care.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to see the PMA team and helped make the event such a success.

And after two very busy days, one of the team quite literally fell asleep at the end! Safe to say everyone gave it their all!

A huge congratulations to Janet on achieving a Distinction in her Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship apprenticeship!

Janet completed the programme while working as a Cancer Care Coordinator and chose the apprenticeship to support her development in the role.

Reflecting on her experience, Janet highlighted the support she received throughout the programme and said she developed her communication, time management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

She also shared that the apprenticeship helped build her confidence, particularly when delivering a project from start to finish.

We’re so pleased to see the impact the apprenticeship has had on Janet’s confidence and development. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement!
