New term, new you ✨
September is packed with ways to get stuck into silversmithing:
🔨 7th–11th Sept — Beginners Week. Five days, zero experience needed, one finished collection of jewellery to be proud of.
🔨 15th/16th Sept — Weekly classes commence! Back to the bench every week, building skills project by project.
🔨 26th Sept — Stacking Rings Day. A whole day, one gorgeous set of rings, all yours to wear.
Whichever one calls to you, there's a seat at the bench with your name on it.

Gold on silver, with no solder in sight — that's Keum Boo. 🌟

This centuries-old Korean technique fuses pure gold foil onto silver using heat and pressure alone. It's one of the mediums our students got to try as part of a larger mixed metal project running through our weekly classes.

That's what we love about the weekly sessions — every week brings something different. Students get the chance to try new mediums, pick up unfamiliar skills, or simply work in a different way to their usual projects.

Here are just a few of the pieces created so far in the mixed metal project — we'll share more as it develops!

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Day today! 🎉 The studio was buzzing all afternoon, and it was wonderful to see so many of you exploring the workbench, browsing the students' work, and getting a real feel for the school.
A special thank you to our students, who did a fantastic job showing off their pieces and chatting so openly about their experience learning here.

Last week's wave ring workshop delivered. 🌊
Such a focused, creative group — and the rings they made speak for themselves. Every one different, every one beautifully formed by hand. There's something about the wave design that really rewards the making process — all that careful shaping pays off the moment you hold it up to the light.
So proud of what this group achieved in a single day.

Eight years ago, when I was also teaching adult community classes, a lovely student brought in a small Buddha statue and made a mould from its face. She used it to create a copper pendant — one of her first pieces of jewellery.
Yesterday, that same mould came out again at our silver clay workshop. New students, new material, new pendant. And it's still as beautiful as ever.
This is one of the things I love most about day workshops — you arrive at a fully equipped studio with access to tools, equipment and resources you'd never have at home. Including, apparently, an eight-year-old mould with a life of its own. ✨
