[06/17/21]   Dear Year 11 parents/carers,

Further to the communications that I have received about having to cancel the prom on 24th June, it has come to my attention that a private function has been organised for the Year 11 cohort at Ingon Manor in Stratford on 4th August. I do hope that covid regulations are lifted in order to allow the students this opportunity.

It is extremely important for all parents and students to appreciate that this is no longer a school function. We cannot be held accountable for any matters related to coronavirus as a result of this gathering, or for any financial responsibility for this booking. As such, respectfully I ask that it is not referred to as an Alcester Academy prom or similar in the public domain.

We are processing the refunds that you require at this time through the school office and you should receive these in a timely, efficient manner. Please do not send money in to us for this private function.

Thank you to those parents who have been kind enough to understand what a difficult decision it was for us to have to cancel our event on 24th June. After spending months trying to keep your children safe and then support them to gain their qualifications, I would have liked nothing more than for the staff to have celebrated with them at prom. As a school, I strongly believe that we have attempted to provide as many opportunities as we can safely for the students during the pandemic. Before I wrote to you earlier this week, I did consult the other South Warwickshire Schools to glean that many had cancelled their proms on safety grounds, and I did contact both Warwickshire Education and Warwickshire Public Health to challenge their guidance.

I wish the students a superb event and I sincerely thank those of you who have supported and understood our position as a school.

Best wishes

Sarah Mellors
Head teacher
