Did you know that I write magazine articles?

For more than 8 years I’ve written articles on business and mindset for The Decorator Magazine, which is now very ably spun together by the inestimable Stuart Elding.

This last article, in the summer edition of the magazine, focuses on ‘The power of small improvements’, with special mention of Dave Brailsford, the cycling coach who had a huge impact on British cycling teams.

You may think of me as a photographer and videographer, but I’m also a writer, and if you publish a magazine then I’d be happy to have a chat about writing for you.

(Just don’t ask me quite yet how my first novel is going, I’m nearly at 100,000 words... nearly...!)

A spot of filming at the Stratford upon Avon Foodbank, they really do amazing work. We all wish it wasn't needed, but it clearly is. What a fabulous group of people who run it, both the staff and the volunteers, and all the organisations who support and work with the Foodbank as partners. There are good people out there, very good people.

✅We've distributed food at 6 foodbank sessions
✅Volunteers gave us a combined total of 96 hours of their time to help us fight hunger and hardship in our town
✅We had our monthly meeting with other foodbanks in the area to share best practice and support one another
✅We were thrilled to attend the launch of Stratford upon Avon Baby Bank's new premises 👶
✅ We even got to do a spot of filming with Chin Badger Media 👀

All in a week's work!

Well, this is a first, one of my photos is now a beer.

One of my clients, Ashorne Hill has created their own light beer for their bar, and used one of my photographs of this amazing venue on the pump.

I’ve not tried it yet. As I was there for work and driving back. But I will, and report back.

You’ve been shooting for a client since 7.30am and you’re backing up all the footage from stills, video and drone... and they pop their head into the office they’ve lent you to say ‘would you like some lunch?’

‘Ooh, yes please.’

Veggie quiche, chunky chips, fresh salad, and an ice cold apple Tango. (All packaging went into recycling bins, they’ve very good at that.)

I was flat out from 7am on site until leaving at 3pm with everything backed up and edits started.

Open access to their posh coffee machine was also gratefully received.

You know you’re working for the right people when their culture automatically includes taking care of freelancers or teams working with them.

Filming at Waterloo Station this week with the brilliant - good fun, nearly every single train running on time, and some lovely little chats with staff and travellers.

Trying to film clips inconspicuously when you’re 6’4”, look like Gandalf, you’re waving cameras AND wearing hi vis is a challenge I rather relished.

Our Creative Cakestorm for April is next Friday.

We'll be eating cake and talking about burnout - how to avoid it, how to notice it, how to deal with it.

When we push ourselves, or allow others to push us beyond what we can sustain emotionally, physically, practically... then we can be in danger of burnout. So it's a really good subject to tackle.

20 people, as always, so get in there!
