Everyone’s favourite event!!! The staff relay 🏃🏼‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃

Some wonderful performances today. My favourites were those who dug deep and participated no matter what place they came and cheered everyone on no matter how far behind they were. That’s what Bennies is about 👏🏻

Happy @stbenedictsuk feast day! We have had a wonderful joy filled day out in the community on our sponsored walk. We walked a collective 5200km together and so far have raised £1300 cash. There’s still plenty of time to get your sponsor money in for this huge achievement of our students and staff though. Funds via parent pay or cash into school.

I bet there’s lots of sleepy people tonight after all that walking! 🥾 are you ready for some celebration pictures…?

Today our efforts took us through Turkey and just across the border into Syria. After some horse riding, running and walking we finished for the evening here, 6715 km into our journey. This is the first refugee camp that we have seen on our journey. I'd like you to spend some time this morning imagining what it must be like to have to live here. With nowhere else to go, often separated from your family and with very few of the essentials that we are so used to. This is the reason why we are fundraising. To support and care for people who find themselves, through no fault of their own, in these tragic circumstances. Syria is the only country on our journey that has closed its borders, so the only way we can experience it is via google maps.

Check out our stories for a super interesting video!

As we journey to Jerusalem, I hope that these little updates have been able to give you and your students a snapshot of the journey we've taken and the cultures we've experienced and opened your eyes to the plight of people all around the world who have been displaced from their homes.

In 2020 Coldplay released an album streamed live from Jordan to shine a light on the experiences of refugees from the Syrian civil war. If you have time in class, why not play it in the background while you and your students are working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO7CCP7liwI&t=147s&ab_channel=Coldplay If you only had time to listen to one song skip to 11:11 and listen to Broken.

Almighty God, we bring before you all those caught up in the conflict in Syria.
We pray for those forced to flee their homes: keep them safe on their travels and arrival in foreign lands.
We pray for those in positions of power who have the means to make a difference:
Guide the United Nations, and governments whose intervention might bring about peace.
We pray for the future of all countries where people have been willing to challenge unfair and unjust governments
We ask that the outcome will be a better future for all, and that the poor and marginalised will experience new lives of dignity and hope.
And we pray for ourselves, that we will not ignore their pleas for help.

Our very own Mrs O’Gara is representing St Benedict’s at St Chad’s cathedral tonight for their mass for Palm Sunday and she sent this picture in from outside the sanctuary 👏🏻

You can join her for mass by watching live via St Chad’s website 🙏🏻 see you there

We're certainly steaming along on our journey! Today was helped by our fantastic year 10s... I know I'm biased, but I thought I'd show you a sneak peak of what the best year group got up to in tutor time this morning. Everyone turned up in their PE kit and donated £1 towards St Chad's Sanctuary or some food. Then the race was on! It was very close between 10MM and 10KTJ but 10KTJ just beat us all with a huge 7440m ran, kicked, dribbled or passed in around 15mins. Everyone loved it and the Y10 tutors were out in their new year group t-shirts.

Why not sponsor our fantastic students here:

We are almost at the most northerly point of our pilgrimage and tomorrow we will be heading south straight for Jerusalem.

Keep it up everyone we're doing great.

Today we made it past one of the largest free-standing bells on our journey. This is called the Peace bell and was commissioned by one of the earliest collections of leaders who ultimately founded the European union.

Poppy from St Gregory's in Year 3 inspired us to go on one of the many Alpaca treks through the alps today. She spent the weekend volunteering with her Mum vacuuming up poo! Now at the end of our trip there will be some prizes like last time: School with the greatest distance, top 3 people, top member of staff and weirdest exercise. Poppy is winning it for me at the moment, but there's still plenty of time to get your wacky photo in.

The last stop today was at the very first dove of peace. This one was erected on the 15th August 2017 and is handmade from stainless steel. All the doves on the Jerusalem way point towards Jerusalem to mark our journey. You can have your very own too as we've designed these pin badges to wear on your uniform to remember our pilgrimage. If your school would like to order some, please let us know.

Don't forget to keep fundraising for the amazing work that St Chad's do. They desperately need our financial support to be able to stay open and help those most vulnerable in our community.

Tomorrow we should be at Vienna before we cross the border into Slovakia.

On today’s #nationaldayofreflection we remembered all those who have suffered during the pandemic. Those we love and those we lost. We will be forever grateful for the sacrifice and dedication that so many in our community have shown. They’ve taught us the very best of humanity.

Schools are resilient, families are resilient and you are resilient. We’re stronger than we know because of the One who holds us all together
