🌿 Autumn Aroma: Spotlight on Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’ 🌿

This rosemary is a low-growing, spreading evergreen shrub, delighting with year-round foliage that brings a highly aromatic feature to a landscape.

Why it deserves a spot on your plant list:
• Flowering shrub: Clusters of blue, bee-friendly flowers in the spring and summer, and occasionally in the autumn
• Permanent interest: Fragrant evergreen foliage for a year-round sensory addition
• Versatile: A low-spreading habit makes for a wonderful low hedge or groundcover and will trail over walls or edges of a large container

Planting and care tips:
• Favours sunny, well drained positions, ideal in rock gardens
• Mulch around the base, keeping clear of the stems
• Lightly prune after flowering to shape

Spotlight on Mahonia: Evergreen shrubs 🌿

Early autumn (September to October) is the optimal time to plant evergreen shrubs, whilst the soil remains warm from summer.

We’re shining the spotlight on Mahonia. These tough, spiny-leaved shrubs have an upright habit that provide year-round structure when other planting dies back, and a steady stream of interest throughout the year with flowers and berries.

Our highlighted varieties:
• Mahonia eurybracteata 'Soft Caress' – An evergreen shrub with a height and spread of 1.2m, yellow, honey-scented flowers in late summer and autumn and berries in the winter.
• Mahonia × media 'Winter Sun' – An evergreen shrub growing to 3m tall, and clusters of fragrant, bright yellow flowers in winter followed by winter berries.

Top planting tips:
• Pick a sheltered spot with moist, well-drained soil.
• Prefers light or deep shade, though may tolerate sun if the soil is kept from being too dry.

We’re ready for shrub planting season, are you? 🪏

Attention on Aster 🤩

Take your garden designs into Autumn with Aster × frikartii 'Mönch'!

This reliable, herbaceous perennial blooms with lavender-blue daisies complete with golden yellow centres, making it a top contender for prolonging summer colour in the garden, lasting well into autumn.

'Mönch' is a late-season favourite for its:
💚 Long lasting colour, flowering from August to October
💚 Branched, upright habit, growing to 70cm in height
💚 Low maintenance appeal that requires no or minimal staking
💚 Disease resistance against mildew

Care Tips:
💚 Position in a well-drained, sunny spot
💚 Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms
💚 Cut back at the end of Autumn to promote new growth in the following year

The sun was shining, and so were the Viridis Plants team! ☀️🌿

Viridis Plants had a fantastic time at the Pro Landscaper Project Awards & Summer Showcase, and were incredibly proud to partner with the event helping to transform the stage and entertainment areas with a selection of our trees, plants and specimens at the stunning De Vere Horsley Estate.

It was a pleasure catching up with familiar faces, meeting new industry connections, and celebrating the incredible talent across the landscaping sector. There's nothing quite like bringing the industry together in such a unique setting.

A huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists. The standard of work on display was exceptional, with every project showcasing outstanding creativity, craftsmanship and attention to detail.

A special congratulations to Hughes Studio, winners of the Design Between £50k–£100k category, with the award presented by our very own Ryan Simpson. A thoroughly deserved achievement! 👏

Thank you to everyone at Pro Landscaper for delivering another outstanding event. We're already looking forward to supporting it again next year!
