The Viridis team were invited to East Cheshire Hospice Last week alongside Creative Gardens & Driveways owner David Hadley to meet the hospice team after donating £1,000 worth of plants for use throughout the hospices public areas including courtyards.

Plants were carefully selected for each area including welcoming shrubs for the entrance driveway, edible herbs for the kitchen garden, and sweet-scented blooms for the sensory garden. The courtyards offer a space for patients, families, and staff to relax and get closer to nature, with some of the wards backing onto the courtyards enjoying the view through open doors and allowing the scent of the floral display to come into the wards on the breeze.

The Hospice that actively encourages environmental responsibility amongst its staff, volunteers, supply chain and trustees offer a warm and welcoming space for adults facing life limiting illnesses, serving the communities of Macclesfield, Buxton, Congleton, High Legh, High Peak, Knutsford, Poynton, Wilmslow and the surrounding areas. Providing care, comfort and support to patients and their families.

Michelle Brown of East Cheshire Hospice , Ryan Simpson of Viridis and David Hadley of Creative Gardens and Driveways Cheshire pictured, were delighted to be asked to support the hospice with the courtyard makeover which they will be entering into this year’s Britan in Bloom Competition.

We wish them luck and thank them for the great support and work they do.

Natural benefits of hedging

A key role of the garden designer is to advise on what kind of materials and plants are appropriate for the client, and an element that shouldn’t be overlooked is the boundary or internal screening.

Natural hedging is becoming extremely popular with our designers with it suiting properties of all ages and sizes, creating both a traditional or contemporary style.

Dependant on the style of garden you are designing Viridis have got you covered, weather you’re looking to create a natural atmosphere in a country garden, soften the surroundings of a city garden, add structure and form to a modern space or create natural rooms.

Viridis can specify and supply hedging throughout the year from fully mature 2m + screens as pictured, hedging troughs or individual plants, dependant on the time of season there are many options.
We have also been looking at alternative hedging with our growers which has resulted in some interesting and inspiring hedging options previously overlooked. – Click the link in our bio to read our plants for purpose on “Buxus Alternatives” or view our range guide.

If you’re looking for a supplier that can offer the full mix of plants in various heights and forms get in touch with our experienced Viridis sales team who would be excited to discuss your next garden design.

After what has been a glorious weekend full of sun, its time for us all to consider water management and watering techniques again.

Our maintenance team has been busy over the last couple of weeks maintaining and testing our irrigation systems across our five growing sites to ensure new crops and stock don’t dry out as the temperatures creep up slowly.

Watering plants may appear to be a simple task, but if not done correctly it can cause long term issues to new plant establishment. Effective watering can reduce the risk of losing plants, the frequency to water, and the likelihood of attack by pest and disease.

To ensure your latest planting schemes stay in health for you and your clients why not take 5 mins to read our watering guide on ‘Establish Healthy Plants with Correct Watering’.

Buxus is the highest selling genus for the purpose of hedging, with its dense habit and iconic dark green colour providing structure to the traditional English garden. However, it is under attack from two varieties of blight and a Buxus moth, which are now common in many parts of the country and can cause devastation to the plant.

Here at Viridis we are finding a huge amount of interest in Buxus alternatives. Whilst it’s difficult to replicate the style and colour of traditional Box, we have compiled a list of some worthy alternatives that can provide form and colour.
