Good morning everyone

We start this lovely sunny day with some exciting news about a new partnership with the amazing Scottish based charity, Smalls for All, which is based along the M8 in West Calder, but helps families all over Africa and the UK.

In its simplest form, Smalls for All sends underwear to some of the poorest countries in the world, and since it’s formation in 2009, has collected 1,544,261 items of underwear and distributed 1,509,861.

The charity was set up by Maria Macnamara who worked as a volunteer in Africa. During her time there, she recalled a priest in Zimbabwe speaking about the lack of underwear and the problems this can cause. It is a health and hygiene problem for many poor African communities, as women often only own one pair of tattered pants or have none at all.

Girls at school often miss up to a week each month as they cannot attend due to me********on and not having the necessary items.

In Africa, Smalls for All helps those living in orphanages, slums, IDP (internally displaced persons) camps and schools, as well as those in hospitals suffering from medical conditions like obstetric fistula. While people living in Western Society tend to have easy access to underwear and take it for granted, in many more remote or poorer parts of Africa, that’s far from the case. Underwear is a luxury that isn’t easily available and, if it is, many people just can’t afford.

Smalls for All operates from the UK and supports people and charitable organisations working on projects in Africa who are able to transport and distribute the pants and bras that have been collected, which is one of the areas where Diamonds in the Community come in. With our upcoming trip to Namibia in August *hopefully* going ahead, we will be taking over bras and underwear to distribute in some of the poorer areas of Walvis Bay, Windhoek, and amongst our hosts - the Topnaar tribe. We will champion Smalls for All all along the way, and will be proud to show their logo as official partners.

Closer to home though, Maria has noticed an ever increasing need for supplying organisations in the UK with underwear as the poverty levels in the UK rise. We were therefore delighted when we received over 3000 pieces of underwear, comprising of a selection of bras, and pants for all ages and gender.

This enables us to distribute these items in our Baby And Family Clothing Aid packs to vulnerable families in our local community, and we are eternally grateful.

Going forward, we will be accepting new underwear and softly worn bras at all our community drives and donation points. This will not only go towards our own efforts in the area, but will support families in Namibia thanks to our volunteers visiting in August.

We’d like to thank Maria for all her help and assistance. She is an incredible lady and what she and her volunteers have done with the charity is inspirational. We look forward to working closely in the future!

Thanks also to Agnes and Karen for popping along yesterday to help collect the items. Both ladies have been instrumental in getting our Baby and Family Clothing Bank up and running, and at 68, Agnes yesterday became the newest (and oldest) member to sign up for the trip to Namibia in August, where she will join Karen and 13 others from the area.

Good morning everyone.
There is a drive on Saturday at the Albert bar for donations for Christmas. Think it is on from 10-2pm
If you are clearing out or would like to donate to families in need in Airdrie please help

Airdrie Foodbank

How can you help this Christmas? 🎄

Due to financial uncertainty and crisis surrounding COVID19, we are expecting this year to be our busiest Christmas ever. With families and individuals already facing hardship, there are so many of us dreading the festive period instead of celebrating!

This year we are hosting a gift appeal to help take the pressure off of those who are struggling and make sure Santa is able to visit as many households as he can 🎅🏼💚

If you can, we are asking for you to donate new or nearly used toys, gifts, beauty products or tech which can be regifted to people of all ages. We ask that these be in good condition, with no broken or missing pieces, and are donated unwrapped for sorting.

You can request a collection from ourselves or you can drop off at our nearest donation point which can be found on our website or by contacting us.

We have also created an Amazon wish list ( which can be used to purchase small gifts on our behalf to be contributed towards this appeal.

We appreciate Christmas is hard enough on all of us, but please, if you can, spare a little this year💚

As you will all have probably guessed, we won’t be back before Christmas.
With this in mind I gathered together the toys I would have used for Santa to give the children.
These toys will now be donated to Airdrie Food Bank in your name.
I’m sure Santa will be happy with all our wee ones 🥰

Your donations are a credit to you all and making many people feel like the world hasn’t forgotten them in difficult times
