North Lanarkshire Council

Staff from North Lanarkshire Council invite you to two online support sessions for parents/carers of primary school pupils. Details can be found below.

The sessions will be held online as follows:

Monday 4th March – Supporting Maths at Home – 7-8pm

Monday 11th March – Supporting Reading at Home – 7-8pm

Any parent who wishes to attend should email Catherine Sweeney, [email protected], by Thursday 29th February 12 Noon.

When emailing Catherine please detail the following – name, school, contact email address and session(s) you will be attending. A meeting link will be sent before the meeting date (please check spam folder).

Supporting Reading at Home

As a parent/carer, you will understand the important part that learning to read plays in your child’s development however this is a highly complex process. We would like to warmly invite you to this session where we will share with you:

How children learn to read
Ways to support and promote reading at home
Practical ways to support reluctant and struggling readers

For more than 20 years, North Lanarkshire Council have committed to employing a dedicated Literacy team who have researched and produced the council-wide ‘Active Literacy’ programme. We are mindful that adults and children alike do not always have positive experiences with literacy and we would like to share with you some positive strategies to change this! It is hoped that this workshop will equip parents/carers with fresh knowledge and ideas about how best to support their child with reading at home.

We would be delighted if you could join us at this session!

Supporting Maths at Home

We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming Numeracy and Maths workshop. We hope this event will be an informal, supportive session where you’ll learn some ways to support your child at home to make maths a more enjoyable experience. We know that everyone’s experience of maths at school wasn’t always a positive one and we hope this workshop will help you to become more confident in helping your child at home. Teaching methods for numeracy have changed in recent years and we would like to share some ways of making numeracy fun and accessible for all.

The workshop will cover:

Some ways numeracy and maths is taught in school
The kinds of resources your child may be using
Some ideas of how to encourage and support your child at home

We hope you are able to use some of the methods to support your child, become more familiar with how your child learns in school and for you and your child to feel more positive and excited about maths!

Come along to the workshop and find out some ways to make maths fun and easy!
