Today is a special day at St George’s. It’s the day we celebrate the life of our Founder,
Constant van Crombrugghe and continue to support his legacy of making St George’s as
widely available as possible through the Bursary Fund.⭐
This year, we are recognising Father Martin Ashcroft’s remarkable 50 years as a Josephite by
raising funds for a special bursary in his honour – The Father Martin Ashcroft Founder’s
Award. We are aiming to raise £25,000 this Founder’s Day to fund a place for a year at the
College.✨
The students at the College celebrated the event with a whole school mass led by Father Martin, attended by The Mayor of Runneymede as our special guest.
We appreciate we are all living in financially challenging times, but if you are able to donate
whatever you can to The Father Martin Ashcroft Founder’s Award today, we would be very
grateful. Click on the link to donate. https://ow.ly/UAER50QeoGI🙏

Pupils of Year 5 at the Junior school took part in a Victorian School Day as part of their history studies. All the pupils dressed up as pupils from a Victorian Elementary school and participated in lessons. The classroom was transformed into a Victorian classroom set in 1899 with desks in rows and a range of Victorian school artefacts. The ‘new’ Victorian school teacher assessed the standard of the class in various subjects, including handwriting, spelling, drill, tables and arithmetic.
Mr Harold, Curriculum Leader for Humanities, commented ‘History days like these are really important for the children, as it brings the subject alive!’
Everyone entered in the spirit of the day – a lunch of gruel was heartily enjoyed by all! Many thanks to our wonderful kitchen staff.⭐

It was an eventful half term for our Bursar Greg Cole and College parent Matt Whaley, who used the break to successfully complete the Original Mountain Marathon, an iconic and challenging two-day adventure race set in the stunning Welsh mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia).
This remarkable achievement not only tested their physical and mental strength but also demonstrated their unwavering support of St. Joseph's African Aid (SJAA) and its life-changing initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, and Gabon.

Last week a group of St George's Germanists 🇩🇪 enjoyed 4 days in Munich. Travelling everywhere (even to and from the airport) by public transport they packed in a huge amount: Die Altstadt und Hofbrauhaus, Bavaria Filmstadt, Allianz Arena, Olypischer Turm, St Peters Kirche, Escape Room, Kegeln und Einkaufen.
The weather was amazing, the students were great ambassadors for St George's and many fabulous memories were made.⭐
Thank you to all the staff that made the trip possible.💫

The Design and Technology department took 4th, 5th and 6th year DT pupils to the Design Museum and the V&A on Friday 22nd Sept. They all enjoyed seeing famous designs in real life and improving their understanding of the design process.
"I found the Design Museum, although small, particularly intriguing as it managed to showcase the development and prototypes of several different products on show at the museum. It helped give a much better understanding of the thought processes of designers and reminded me that very few products are made perfect on the first model.! Nia L6 Student💫

Good luck to our College student Oliver who has been chosen to accompany the England Rugby team onto the pitch at the World Cup England vs. Chilie match on Saturday afternoon at 4.45pm.🏴
Oliver was selected from thousands of entries in a global competition run by the team sponsor Land Rover titled "Defenders of Tomorrow", a programme that aims to inspire future generations to effect meaningful change on and off the pitch.🌏
Oliver's video entry eloquently described his weekly meetings with the elderly community through the College's SVP club. He shares how these interactions allow him to connect with the past by hearing their stories, offering him a unique perspective on history. He believes that this insight into the past is a valuable tool for shaping a brighter future.⭐
Well done Oliver, we are all so proud of you, enjoy your moment at the match on Saturday!🏉

As we approach the start of a new academic year, we have some important St George’s news to share.
Mr Antony Hudson, our Junior School Headmaster, has announced that he will be retiring in two years’ time. His announcement comes as he celebrates 20 outstanding years in post, and we’re sure you’ll join us in extending our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mr Hudson for his dedicated service.
Mr Denis Nowlan, Chair of Governors, shared the news by email with parents yesterday, and which you can also read in full on our website here: https://www.stgeorgesweybridge.com/news/37.
Within his letter, Denis movingly wrote: “Antony’s Headship has been characterised by his total dedication to pupil well-being, giving each child a sense – in the Josephite, Catholic tradition – of ‘coming home to school’. On behalf of the whole Board of Governors, I wish to record our heartfelt gratitude and admiration.”
St George’s have engaged Perrett Laver, an outstanding executive search agency, to support the search for a successor and anticipate an appointment by July 2024.
