Rule 174. Box junctions
These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. You must not enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear.
However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.
At signalled roundabouts you must not enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.

There's a hefty fine now if you break the rules.

Stopping distances
Rule 126
Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. You should:
• leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front so that you can pull up safely if it suddenly slows down or stops - the safe rule is never to get closer than the overall stopping distance
• allow at least a two-second gap between you and the vehicle in front on roads carrying faster-moving traffic and in tunnels where visibility is reduced, doubling the gap on wet roads and increasing it still further on icy roads
• remember, large vehicles and motorcycles need a greater distance to stop
• if driving a large vehicle in a tunnel, you should allow a four-second gap between you and the vehicle in front

With the warmer weather on its way (hopefully) and the ever increasing cost of fuel more people are taking up cycling. The Highway Code was amended in January to offer more protection to pedestrians and cyclists. Please show consideration to others when going about your journey. Taking that extra couple of minutes to allow pedestrians to cross and giving adequate room when overtaking a cyclist wont have a major impact on your day.😊

Congratulations to Jamie who passed with only 1 minor. The examiner was so impressed with Jamie’s driving that he praised both Jamie and myself! Happy days 🎉

⚠️ Be particularly careful of horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles especially when approaching, overtaking, passing or moving away. Always pass wide and slowly. When you see a horse on a road, you should slow down to a maximum of 10 mph. Be patient, do not sound your horn or rev your engine. When safe to do so, pass wide and slow, allowing at least 2 metres of space.

Horse riders are often children, so take extra care and remember riders may ride in double file when escorting a young or inexperienced horse or rider. Look out for horse riders’ and horse drivers’ signals and heed a request to slow down or stop. Take great care and treat all horses as a potential hazard; they can be unpredictable, despite the efforts of their rider/driver.

Remember there are three brains at work when you pass a horse; the rider’s, the driver’s and the horse’s. Do not forget horses are flight animals and can move incredibly quickly if startled.

We’ve been asked to help raise the profile of this topic by a number of road users.

There are changes to the Highway Code that come into effect on January 29 (pending parliament's approval).

🔹 Cyclists have priority over cars when cars turning
🔹 Pedestrians have priority over cars at junctions
🔹 Changes to cyclist positioning to ensure better visibility

It is the responsibility of individual road users to be familiar with the Highway Code.

My last test of 2021 and although it hasn’t been a full year of tests I am very proud indeed that I have had a 100% first time pass rate this year!! 🥳

⚠️No MOT since September.
⚠️21 year old driver
⚠️Uninsured
⚠️Passed his test just 29 days ago.

The 6 points + £300 fine he has been issued will result in him having to re-sit all tests again. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
