Lazy, or just exhausted?

Two weeks into summer and I already see it.

That spark coming back. His brain isn’t bogged down with the weight of school, marking and anxiety.

He’s free to be himself and shine in ways school doesn’t measure but August is creeping in and I know that feeling is coming back too.

Dyslexic Minds Club is an online club for dyslexic kids where they learn about our dyslexic strengths and meet other kids just like them!

It’s the club that builds lasting confidence!

The dyslexia myth almost every teacher still believes.
Some dyslexics do mix up letters like b and d, but that’s not what dyslexia actually is.

At its core, dyslexia is about how the brain processes the sounds in words, not how the eyes see them. That mix-up is just one small symptom, not the cause.

And the myth causes real damage. It makes kids think their brain is broken, when it’s actually wired for big picture thinking.

A unique approach is often something to be celebrated.

Everyone else takes the obvious next step. Your dyslexic child finds a completely different route, and still gets there.

Struggles get talked about a lot. Reading, spelling, working memory, sequencing, organisation. It’s a lot to carry.

What I don’t think gets talked about enough is the strengths. The stuff that can genuinely help a dyslexic kid do well in life.

Over the next few days I want to get into that, what to look for, how to notice it.

Why are dyslexic strengths never mentioned?

Growing up, every time dyslexia came up, it was about what I struggled with. Never what I was good at.

I got diagnosed young. It was a relief. But nobody ever told me what I was actually capable of, just what I wasn’t.

I want that to change.

Day 1 of posting till no dyslexic kid thinks they’re stupid.

Dyslexic kids deserve to know they have strengths that other kids don’t have. Their brains are wired differently, but different doesn’t mean stupid.

I’m a dyslexia specialist, a dyslexic myself and a parent, and I’m on a mission to change how dyslexic kids see themselves, one day at a time.
