Hi everyone,

My name is Hanya Kamhawi and I am a 2016 graduate from SGC.
Following the current events, I would really appreciate it if you could take a minute to read and sign the following petition:
St Georges Alumni are competing each week in a 5k run against other public schools.

So far 4 OGs have ventured out Martin Threakall (our star runner), Simon Ludlam, Gerard Thompson and Matt Crawcour. We note down our best 5k for the week and register the time online. At the end of each week the results are totted up.

Anyone with an attachment to SGC can enter, past and present pupil, staff and pets.

So if you are going out for that evening jog or early morning run and you have saved the time why not send it in?

Results for last week below – I know, we could do better but we need some younger legs!

Anyone interested do let me know Simon Ludlam [email protected]

From the organiser David Jenkins:

“A good turnout last week with numbers almost reaching 200 and 11 teams competing, including a king and three saints. Its worth noting that cross country running is probably now the only organised (well, vaguely) sport allowed.

Fierce competition for the 4 to score podium. Giggleswick showing strongly for number of entrants. Warwick fielding a strong team. Wi******er finding it difficult to only run or at least register 5kms.

The virtual almost became reality when Wellington and Wi******er met at Denbies Vineyard, with Clearwater Bay in HK another potential duplicate. Other notable locations were Long Itchington, Wolfgangsee, and large numbers on Ilkley Moor, The exact location of the treadmill in Ho Chi Minh city is not known.

Detailed results attached - as always, you are welcome to check and advise for errors.

DJ”
I found this after moving house. Michael Self died a few years ago, leaving a young daughter, I've tried to track down his family to send them this & a few other Georgian bits. He was originally from Wrexham & died in Bath, about 12 years ago. I found the funeral parlour but they couldn't help, all suggestions welcome.
Happy St George's Day!
Tune in tonight Channel 4 at 9.30pm to watch 'Sink or Swim - Stand up for Charity'. As Old Georgian John-Coningham Rolls (Class of '81) and his company Swimquest put a group of 'non swimming' celebrities through their paces with the aim of swimming the English Channel.

John completed this feat in a solo effort in 1998 taking 15 hours and 51 minutes to make the crossing.
Mini reunion of the Class of '88 and '89 in the West End with Jim Blackburn, Matt Kaminski and Damian Wilson. #QualityNotQuantiry
Very sorry to read of Fr Andrew's passing. I remember him well - in the Biology department or riding his bicycle around the College. Sending my condolences...
Thanks to all . It was fun . Glad you liked it . Brian
I didn't know the college starred in a 1964 Richard Attenborough film! Seance on a Wet Afternoon - gently suspenseful and creepy, the film not the school. Surprised the life out of me when I recognised it!
Five-a-side football starts next wednesday, please circulate this poster as we always need players. Cheers Lee

Our aim is to provide social, career and business networking via reunions, email, the internet and through written communications. St George's Always Georgian was established in 2003 to reunite former students from St George's College and St Maur's School with each other and with the School.

The Development Office publishes the alumni magazine, Reunite. If you have anything you think we should know about, feel free to get in contact and who knows, it may get published! If you would like to visit the school, feel free to get in touch and we can hopefully arrange a tour.

Fr Adrian Cadwallader cj RIP

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Fr Adrian on Tuesday 3rd August. Fr Adrian had been cared for at Sunbury Nursing Home for some time.

Fr Adrian joined the Josephite's in 1956 having been a pupil at the College. He took his final vows as a Josephite in 1961 and was ordained in 1965. The Josephites and St George's owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Fr Adrian for his many years of devoted service. Among his interests were table tennis, horse racing, bridge and stamp collecting. His annual pilgrimage to Lourdes with Across was a major highlight of Fr Adrian's year.

Everyone who wishes to can attend the funeral of Fr Adrian. Chasubles will be provided for priests wishing to concelebrate. Deacons will need to bring their own white vestment.

Fr Adrian will be brought into Chapel at St George's College at 5.00pm on Sunday 22 August where he will remain overnight.
Fr Adrian's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10.30am in the Chapel at St George's College on Monday 23rd August.

Interment will take place immediately after the Mass in the cemetery on our hand pulled bier.
Light refreshments will be available after the interment in the Activity Centre at the College.

And so another season of Old Georgians’ Cricket on the stunning grounds of St George's College comes to a close.
Despite the weather a 20 over game between the SGC Governors' XI and OGA President's XI took place. The Governors' XI won the toss and elected to field. OGA President's XI soon found themselves reduced to 62 for 8 after 13 overs thanks to 5-11 from Tim Kirkham in 3 overs, but a 42 run 9th wicket stand by Matt Parkinson and Arthur Owens and 23 run 10th wicket stand by Arthur and Tom Owens (batting again) ensured that the President's XI scored 127 runs in their 20 overs.
OGA President's XI struck early to have SGC Governors 2-1 in the first over. But a man-of-the-match innings from William Owens - 64 runs off 57 balls including 6 4's and 3 6's - ably supported by Harry Weatherall (22) and George Lanigan (37) saw SGC Governors' XI secure the win in 18.4 overs.

Scorecard can be found on Old Georgians CC Play-Cricket page https://oldgeorgianscc.play-cricket.com/website/results/4953366

Before the game and whilst the weather tried its best to disrupt play, Players, Officials and Guests enjoyed a picnic lunch in the Monsignor Lord Petre Pavilion.

As is usual on this day OGCC awards were made and Brian O'Gorman (OGCC Secretary) extended his thanks to Rachel Owen, Headteacher, Greg Cole, Bursur, and the College Groundstaff for their continued support of Old Georgians Cricket in allowing use of the grounds. Brian also thanked Michael Price (OGCC Team Secretary) for all his hard work in ensuring players were selected for all matches and finally Paul Stubbs (OGA Treasurer and OGCC Scorer) for ensuring that behind the scene match day planning and organisation ran smoothly.

The OGA Cricket Week Cup was awarded to Rob Deacock, SGC Head Groundsman, in appreciation of all the work in preparing such wonderful pitches.

Batsman of the Year was awarded to Tom Fleming for his 132 in the annual SGC 1st XI fixture and Bowler of the Year was awarded to Joe O'Gorman for his 11 wickets in 20 overs including 8-30 in the SGC 1st XI fixture.

Finally, OGCC is indebted to the continued support from Trailfinders and County Umpires for supplying match day officials.

Well done!

During the interval at today’s match against Troubadours, Daisy Feast was presented with her OGCC cap by Brian O’Gorman.
This is in recognition of her being the first girl to play for OGCC.
Congratulations Daisy.

14/07/2021

History was made today at Woburn Park, when Daisy Feast stepped onto the field to bat at No 6 for the Old Georgians against Old Cranleighans.
Daisy is a current pupil at St George’s and so became the first girl to play for the Old Georgians CC. She performed with distinction scoring 13 runs and taking 3 wickets to help Old Georgians secure a 45 run win.
Full scorecard can be found at Old Georgians CC Play-cricket site https://oldgeorgianscc.play-cricket.com/website/results/4560685.

11/07/2021

Emeriti took home the Monsignor Lord Petre Salver following a 14 run win over OGCC.
Captain Tom Fleming received the salver from Tom Stubbs OBE.

During the annual MCC Match last Friday, Fr Martin blessed a new bench at the pavilion donated by Old Georgians in memory of Gordon Hewitt OG who died in January 2021. Gordon holds the record of playing the most matches for the MCC. He started playing for the MCC in 1967 when he left the College. For a time he also taught Geography at the Junior School. He retired early to Gozo (Malta) after his mother died so he could play cricket nearly every day. In 2002, Gordon co-hosted the College’s First XI’s tour to Malta and two years ago the MCC tour to Malta. Thank you to all those who donated to the bench. #ThankYouGeorgians #alwaysgeorgian

It was such a pleasure to see those who were able to join our virtual Over 60s reunion on Wednesday. 45 guests joined us via Zoom representing 1954 to 1979 year groups. One of the bonuses of using Zoom was that those living overseas could join in; some at rather unsociable hours! Guests called in from around the UK, the south of France, the US and South Africa.
UK guests enjoyed their Bettys Afternoon Tea Gifts. We enjoyed hearing some funny stories from school days, although the guest appearance from Ralph Child's cat had us laughing! Thank you all for joining us.
If anyone would like to organise a small group reunion over the coming months (subject to any restrictions), we would be happy to host you at the College.
