Our A-level Geography students recently travelled to North Wales as part of their fieldwork studies, gaining valuable first-hand experience of the geographical processes and environments they have been learning about in the classroom. ⛰️

The trip provided an excellent opportunity for students to collect data, develop their investigative skills and apply their geographical knowledge in a real-world setting, all while exploring the stunning landscapes of North Wales. πŸ“

Fieldwork is a key part of the A-level Geography course and helps students build the skills needed for their independent investigations and examinations.

A fantastic experience for all involved and a great example of learning beyond the classroom! πŸ‘

Lower Sixth students from the Student Council met today for the final time this academic year, bringing to a close another successful year of student leadership and collaboration. πŸ’¬

Throughout the year, Council members have helped shape and improve Sixth Form life through their ideas, feedback and commitment to representing their peers. Their contributions have led to a number of positive changes, including improvements to facilities, updates to the Hub menu and the introduction of new enrichment opportunities. πŸ‘

We would like to thank all of our Student Council members for their dedication, thoughtful contributions and constructive discussions throughout the year.

A special thank you goes to our Upper Sixth representatives as they prepare to leave us this summer. Your leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on the Sixth Form community, and we wish you every success in the future. πŸŽ“

Well done to Molly Eatough for a great presentation on their novella. A chance to ask questions and probe understanding of post-modern literature. πŸ“–

Completing the EPQ requires dedication and initiative, and this presentation was an excellent example of how students can turn a personal passion into a meaningful piece of work. Congratulations Molly! πŸ‘

Earlier this week, our Lower Sixth students took their first steps towards their post-18 destinations at our UCAS Launch Event. πŸŽ“

The event began with an informative assembly from Miss Sutton, who outlined the UCAS application process and what students can expect over the coming months as they begin planning their next steps.

At lunchtime, students had the opportunity to explore a university and careers fair in the Hub, speaking to representatives and gathering valuable information about higher education, apprenticeships and future career pathways.

A fantastic way to begin the journey towards life after Sixth Form! πŸ’Ό

Our Lower Sixth students recently showcased their hard work and research skills at the EPQ Marketplace.

Students designed engaging stands and posters to present their individual research projects to the wider Sixth Form community, providing a fantastic opportunity to discuss their findings in a more interactive and informal setting than a traditional presentation.

The EPQ Marketplace celebrated the culmination of months of dedication, with students demonstrating not only their project knowledge but also valuable skills in communication, presentation, research, organisation and time management.

Through the EPQ, students develop a wide range of transferable skills, including effective research techniques, refining research questions, Harvard referencing, essay writing and critical thinking β€” all of which will support them in higher education and beyond.

Well done to all involved on an impressive showcase of academic curiosity and achievement! πŸ‘πŸ“šπŸŽ€πŸ’‘

19 Lower Sixth students took part in a practice expedition for their Gold The Duke of Edinburgh's Award last weekend.

This involved four days walking and navigating the Langdales, in the Lake District with four overnight camps, including a wild camp. The sun might be shining in the photos but they experienced in some extremely challenging, wet and windy weather conditions.

Day 1 was a mountain orientation walk up Stickle Ghyll to the base of Pavey Ark for micro-navigation before setting off on their expedition proper on Sunday morning. Groups were able to reach the summits of High Raise, Pike O’ Stickle and Rossett Pike over the next two days. They completed the weekend in Coniston feeling deservedly proud of their fantastic achievement.

Big shout out to Jon Freestone at Freestone Climbing and Mountain Services for his expertise and encouragement over the weekend.
