Matrix Arts Centre is an arts education charity providing a warm, friendly environment in a purpose-built building for children and adults to enjoy the arts in South Oxfordshire. It is our wish that creative education, presented in a friendly and approachable way, should underpin all our children’s courses. Our biggest offering and one key to our success - our Yamaha Music School - is a fantastic example of this. We also have art lessons, dance classes, individual music tuition on several instruments, fitness sessions, an adult community choir, and our 'MUSIC AT MATRIX concert series'. Scarlett performed her piece 'Parade of the Knights' in our YMS Young Composers Concert in May. She says "This piece is a demonstration of strength by the knights parading through the town they have just captured."

To celebrate 50 years of Yamaha Music Schools in the UK, Yamaha has created a special series showcasing selected music schools across the country.

In this video Miffy and Amelia, who completed the Yamaha Music Education System courses with us, share what it was like growing up with YMS - building confidence, finding the courage to perform, and discovering a lifelong connection with music.

Hadassah performed her piece 'Spring Flowers' in our Young Composers Concert in May. She says "I named my piece Spring Flowers because we are in the season of spring and I like seeing the flowers blooming. This piece makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. When I play the A section, I picture flowers starting to grow. In the B section, they are fully blooming. But when the A section comes back at the end, it reminds me that the flowers will eventually die, which is why the music feels so emotional."

Lindsay, founder and manager of Matrix Arts Centre, was lucky enough to have a whole video to herself! We were delighted to welcome Mr Kohei Mori from Japan to our centre. This was as part of his tour of Europe, visiting Yamaha schools and listening to/discussing local issues and achievements. He was accompanied by Martin Galllagher, Yamaha Europe, and Ollie Dixon, Yamaha UK, who are pictured together with Lindsay.

Amelia performed her piece 'Summer Daydreaming' in our Young Composers Concert in May. She says: "It tells the story of a girl watching a cocoon on a warm summer day as a butterfly slowly emerges and spreads its wings for the first time. In her imagination, the butterfly flies through the garden but becomes trapped in a spider’s web and struggles to break free. Just when it seems hopeless, the spider chooses kindness over fear and helps the butterfly escape. The music opens with gentle wonder, builds tension during the struggle, and resolves into a peaceful, hopeful melody celebrating an unexpected friendship."
