This week, I watched cardboard become creatures, sticks become stories, and paper become tiny worlds. But the most beautiful thing wasn’t what they made. It was watching them trust their own ideas, solve little problems, help each other, and leave every afternoon just a little more confident than when they arrived. That’s why The Muse isn’t just about art. This is what one summer afternoon can become.

A stick is never just a stick when you’re a child. It can become a person. A family. The beginning of an entire story. This is why we make. Because somewhere between choosing, building, changing our minds and trying again, children begin to trust their own ideas. Why do children always collect things?

Children don’t collect little treasures by accident. A feather. A smooth stone. A tiny leaf. They’re paying attention to the world around them. They’re noticing, comparing, wondering and discovering what feels meaningful to them. That’s why we created these little treasure birds. Not just to make something beautiful, but to give those tiny discoveries a special place to belong. If you’d like your child to experience this kind of creative learning, we’d love to welcome them. This summer, I’m opening the doors to a small group of curious children who love creating with their hands, exploring ideas, and turning simple materials into something extraordinary. Over six afternoons, we’ll paint, build, draw, invent, experiment, and create a collection of unique artworks inspired by nature, stories, and imagination. Sometimes learning doesn’t look like learning. It looks like colour appearing on a blank page. It looks like curiosity. It looks like children completely absorbed in what they’re doing. Before they drew their giraffes, they spent time experimenting, observing and wondering what would happen next. Those moments matter. Because confidence doesn’t appear all at once. Simple materials • Big imagination

Do you remember when cardboard turned into a castle? Or when a stick could become a character? When the simplest materials held the biggest possibilities… I do. And perhaps that’s why I created The Muse. A place where children (and adults too) can rediscover the joy of making, imagining and creating with their own hands. These little birds began as toilet rolls, cardboard and paint in the Summer Fete at Rush Common/Abingdon, my daughter’s school. Simple materials. Big imagination. Last month, we built more than birds.
We built confidence, imagination…and little places for precious treasures.

Children have a beautiful habit of collecting small treasures. A little stone from a walk. A feather found in the garden. A special leaf. A piece of string. Things that seem ordinary to us often feel important to them. Tomorrow, we’ll be creating these little treasure birds. Part sculpture, part keepsake box.
