Yesterday we hosted 16 students from the The University of Texas at Austin and their professor. They are in the UK on an AIFS (American Institute of Foreign Study) programme touring different schools and educational settings. They had a tour of both of our sites and heard talks on our UK SEND system, our specialist offer, our therapies and mental health support and our use of assistive tech.
It was a joy to welcome them back to The Unicorn School for the 4 year in a row! We can't wait to see you again next year.

We’re incredibly proud to share that we have successfully renewed our Gold Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools Award 🏅
Supporting mental health and wellbeing is fundamental to our ethos as a school, and retaining this award reflects the dedication of our staff and the strength of our whole community - pupils, families and colleagues alike.
One parent recently shared:
“My daughter has been to two mainstream schools and we have NEVER seen her so happy and thriving – she finally believes in herself and likes herself.”
This is why we do what we do.
We’re proud of this milestone, but we know this work never stands still. We remain committed to continuing to support the wellbeing of our pupils, our families and our staff, and to helping every child flourish every day.

Maths has never tasted so good! 🍬 Our KS2 students have been exploring bar charts this term, collecting data on their favourite sweets and bringing it to life through bar charts and pictograms.

Last week at this time a group of intrepid Unicorn runners were lining up at the start of the Blenheim 7k. It was a lovely race through beautiful surroundings and we raised almost £5k for the school. There's still time to donate to the team here www.justgiving.com/campaign/blenheim7k26
We'd love to get over the £5k line!

This exam season, we’ve been supporting our students with a morning “Wake Up & Shake Up” session.
Each day, students come together before their exams to enjoy a juice and a slow-release energy snack, alongside simple regulation exercises to help them feel calm, focused, and ready to do their best.
A huge thank you to Abingdon Tesco for making this possible through their generous donation of juice cartons, flapjacks, and bananas Your support is helping our students start their day in the best possible way! Abingdon Extra - Supporting the community

We’re very pleased to be working with Oxford Brookes University on a doctoral research project exploring national guidance for supporting young people with handwriting difficulties.
This week, a small group of our Year 7–9 students took part in a workshop, sharing their experiences of handwriting and typing support. Their insights will help shape more inclusive approaches to education across the UK.
We’re incredibly proud of their contribution to such important research.

Our year 8 pupils went off on residential last month to Osmington Bay. Students took part in everything from climbing and archery to rafting in the sea. It was great to see so many pushing themselves and having such a fantastic time.
