🥋 A fantastic Little Ninjas launch! 🥋

We had a great turn out this evening with kids trialling our new Tuesday Little Ninjas Club on our launch day!

It was fantastic to see the children getting stuck in, learning new karate skills and giving everything a go 🙌

Also a special thank you also goes to two of our existing Friday Little Ninjas members, who came along to support the launch 🥷

They were fantastic role models and helped show our new triallists what they can achieve learning martial arts ⭐

A higher kick doesn't always mean a better kick 🥋

When learning the side kick, beginners often make a few common mistakes:

👉 Leaning back to try to get the kick higher
👉 Losing power and control
👉 Looking down or away instead of at the target

And interestingly, these things are often connected.

In our martial art, Soo Bahk Do, we place a strong emphasis on personal development — learning to work with where you are now, while still working towards where you want to be.

You don't need to be naturally flexible.

You don't need to kick head height.

And you don't need to get everything right straight away.

👍 Start where you are. Build from there.

For our beginners, we encourage starting the side kick at a comfortable middle level:

✔️ Get the foot position right
✔️ Keep your eyes on the target
✔️ Drive your energy forward
✔️ Build control, balance and power

As their technique, balance and flexibility develop, the height can naturally increase.

That's what having an instructor is about — guiding our students through the steps, helping them correct their technique, and giving them the confidence to keep progressing and discover their potential.

Because martial arts isn't about being perfect on day one.

It's about becoming better than you were yesterday — mentally and physically 🥋

Behind this kick is...

Years of turning up to class.

Years of repping it out behind the scenes — before class, after class, and whenever I could.

Years of physical training to make it possible — stretching, strength, cardio and conditioning.

Years of developing the mental discipline and focus to stay on the path, keep going and not give up when things got difficult.

Years of determination to represent as a female and a person of colour, even when that felt uncommon — and even when there were comments along the way.

And behind this kick is a practitioner who started out disliking exercise, was unfit, and was always the last one picked for sports.

So when you see the kick…

You’re not just seeing the kick.

You’re seeing years of work progress from consistency.

And that’s what training with us can do 🥋

You don't have to be naturally athletic...
Or the best in the room...

You just have to keep turning up 👍

Here's our medal-winning brothers celebrating their achievement from our Summer Hyung Competition!🏅

It's great to have family members train, inspire and motivate each other!

01/09/2026

We're back at training this week and hope everyone had a great summer break! 🥋

Our 2026 Summer Hyung Competition results are in, and here are our medalists! 🤩

*1st Place : Elliot* 🥇

This Black Belt Little Ninja graduate starting the 'bigger' class this month did something truly exceptional : he wanted to challenge himself for this competiton and learnt Ki Cho Hyung Il Bu (Basic Form 1) over the holidays and performed it very well! He'll be turning 6 soon, and it's amazing to see his dedication to the martial arts.

*2nd Place : Chris* 🏅

Performed Chil Sung Sam Ro very well - tidying up the areas that our instructor has been nagging at him to correct for some time 😉
It's a very difficult hyung to perform and we've seen a marked improvement.

*3rd Place: Oscar and Jasper* 🏅

We've awarded two candidates joint 3rd place this year as it was really hard to choose between them! Both boys are of similar age, performed the same hyung (Pyung Ahn Sam Dan), and to a good standard that showed improvement in their training.

---

Congratulations to all our medalists and a very well done to all our participants who entered this year. The spirit of this competiton is to encourage training and development over the summer holidays and you've all shown that 😊

Medals will be awarded at class this week!
Video compilation of our medalists' entries will be posted soon!

Mr Hugh was very touched to receive this thoughtful card from Lara, one of our Little Ninjas 🥹🥋

It's moments like these that remind us what our club is all about – confidence, kindness, and the amazing young people we get to teach.

This is our final week of classes before the summer break 🌞. We hope all our members and families have a fantastic holiday!

We're also excited that in September, our Head Instructor, Sabrina, will be returning from maternity leave. She's looking forward to seeing how you've all progressed in your training over the past few months 😊.
