Spirit of Speyside Whisky School 2027 tickets are now live! 🥃

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival returns in April 2027, whisky lovers from around the world gather in Speyside for another celebration of our region, its distilleries and stories.

If you're planning to visit, now is the time to start arranging your stay and booking those must do events before they sell out.

I'm also delighted to be involved in the Speyside Whisky School 2027, where I'll be presenting the opening lecture, "A Brief History of Speyside's Contribution to Scotch Whisky", on the first day of the course.

The Dram Queen cruises to the Hebrides Whisky Festival

I'm delighted to be joining Hebridean Adventures this September for a very special voyage exploring the 2026 Hebridean Whisky Festival (Hebridean Whisky Trail).

Over seven nights, we'll journey from Oban through some of Scotland's most spectacular island landscapes, with visits planned to Tobermory, Torabhaig and Talisker before joining the Festival Finale at Raasay Distillery. In between there will be plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife and seabirds as well as enjoy the scenery.

I'll accompany guests throughout the voyage as their resident whisky expert, sharing drams and stories about the distilleries along the way and hosting a series of onboard whisky tastings...

The planning has already begun. I'm currently working with the onboard chef to create whisky and food pairings for the voyage, bringing together some wonderful Scottish flavours with carefully chosen drams.

I'm very much looking forward to this trip!

Scotch Whisky De-mystified is one of the tutored tasting experiences offered in the Dram Room, that is designed to help make sense of the wonderful, but sometimes confusing, world of Scotch whisky.

Over six carefully selected drams, you'll explore the differences between malt and blended whiskies, journey through Scotland's whisky producing regions and discover how different types of oak cask and maturation can influence what's in your glass.

No prior knowledge required, just a curiosity to discover more about Scotland's national drink.

Should you ever add water to your Scotch whisky? 🌊

It's a question I'm asked time and time again... and the answer may surprise you.

Adding water isn't about improving a whisky or following a rule. It's a simple tasting technique that can help reveal hidden aromas, soften the alcohol and encourage you to discover new layers of flavour. The key is to start neat, then add just a few drops at a time and see how the whisky changes.

A memorable whisky experience in a truly historic setting.

It was a pleasure to host a private whisky tasting for guests staying at the beautiful Craigston Castle, home to the Urquhart family since 1604.

Surrounded by centuries of history, the event was an opportunity to explore Scotland's national drink through carefully selected drams. Every private tasting is tailored to the interests of the guests, creating an experience that is both informative and enjoyable.

I was delighted to hear the guests described the event as "exceptional" and that they enjoyed my expertise and passion for Scotch whisky. Feedback like that makes what I do so rewarding.

Working with unique venues such as Craigston Castle is always a privilege, helping to create memorable experiences that become a highlight of a stay in Scotland.
