Dewicwrt Riding School & Livery, Abergavenny.

It was another successful weekend for Team Dewicwrt at the Cricklands Championship🏅with lots of wins and everyone placed in nearly all of their classes over the three days. The team showjumping was one of the highlights😊 a huge thank you to Sam and Steve from The Bear Hotel for sponsoring our team outfits.

What a day was had today by Team Dewicwrt - It's fair to say the girls smashed it💪 between the three of them Grace, Anna and Izzy claimed the top four spots in the 60, top three in the 70 and top two placings in the 80🏆 our chef d'equipe (Jackie) must be doing something right😉

Christmas came early with a new sign at Dewicwrt thanks to Nigel and his elves at N R Brown Farriers. The ponies were treated with early Christmas presents which kept them busy🐴.

The last few days of lessons before the new year have been undertaken in true Dewicwrt style...

which brought out the competitive side in both people and ponies alike with plenty of thrills and spills along the way! As you can see from the photo, the excitement was all too much for Jackie🙈.

We would like to wish each and every one of our Dewicwrt riders a very merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year😊.

All things being well lessons will recommence Saturday 8th January.

Gerty welcomed a pretty little filly into the world on Wednesday who finally managed to make it out today without her armbands - as you can see she couldn’t stop smiling 😆

Following the announcement last week it is not yet clear a date at which we can reopen just yet - as soon as we are given a date you’ll be the first to know 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Whilst we can’t open for riding lessons we have taken the time to be very productive!

The arena has been given a well earned facelift with a new fence complete by Chris Martin Fencing and a new seating area has been constructed by our handy man Clive (modelled by Jackie enjoying the sun)🌞

Not only that but also we welcome the first day of spring ☀️

As you can see the ponies aren’t finished with their holidays just yet 😎

It may have been a long winter but these sunny days are a reminder that better days are coming our way 💪🏼

And with a blink of an eye we are in February🐴

As you can see not even Grace armed with treats is enough to encourage the ponies in from their holidays - they are most definitely enjoying the lockdown number 3 😂

So today consisted of a day in the Pooch Pamper Parlour in preparation for Coopers first appearance in Homeschooling Zoom Show and Tell 🙈

Jackie is feeling a little hesitant but both Grace and Cooper are super excited that it means Cooper will get to come in and explore the house before settling down infront of the fire for the class 🐶

The Welsh Government has spoken which means the ponies Christmas wishes have come early and their holidays start from midnight tonight 🕰

This means all lessons booked ahead of this date are unfortunately cancelled for the foreseeable future 😢

Today we had a very competitive start to the gymkhana weekend with the Ladies gymkhana 🏅

Who would have thought when you were dropped off a year ago you would have made such an impact on the yard... your fascination with anything steal-able, anything edible, anything fashionable and well just anything really makes everyday an exciting one 🙈

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Following Mark Drakesfords announcement on Monday we are pleased to announce we are back up and open for business on Monday 9th November 2020 following the Firebreak 🔥

We thought it best to allow the ponies to enjoy their holiday for as long as possible before breaking the news to them - as you can see Abigail wasn’t best pleased 🙈

But we are pleased to say all of the other ponies reactions were far better and they can not wait to see you all (I think they were getting bored) 🐴

Unfortunate due to the lockdown restrictions in England we won’t be able to see our friends from over the border just yet but will look forward to seeing you again once the restrictions are lifted 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Hamish is rather pleased with the 2 weeks lockdown... it means 2 weeks off after all 🙈

As for all businesses across wales we will be going into lockdown as of 6pm Friday 23rd October 2020 for two weeks - as you can see the ponies are overjoyed with their two weeks holiday 🐴

🧩 Puzzle had a visitor today... his first visit from Uncle Dave the vet 🙈 he wasn’t overtly impressed at first with the microchip scanner but once he realised Dave was actually a passport artist he couldn’t wait to see the finished product and check he’d got his best side🐴

So after we have all managed at least 3 weeks back to school we are still receiving smiles like this 😊 don’t forget if you do want to join in the fun we do evenings and weekend lessons and can cater for all abilities 🐴

Meet our new school pony Gaea who is more than happy with her new sun hat 👒 we’ve had a warm start to the week but all of our ponies are keeping hydrated and toped up on suncream to ensure they can keep on having fun teaching you at all to ride 🐴

The forecast ahead is a warm one so please don’t forget your suncream and to bring a drink - it’s hard work riding in the sun 🌞

Well what a first week back we’ve had 🙈

The ponies aren’t quite sure what has hit them and nor is Jackie 😴 Cooper on the other hand is more than pleased to have seen so many new people to give him a cuddle 🐶

We have been overwhelmed with the support we’ve had from both old faces and new and can’t thank you all enough 🐴

We are all here to learn to ride and have some fun... who knows we may even find the next Charlotte Dujardin or AP McCoy 😉

‘‘Twas the night before the reopening of the riding school,
When all through the yard not a pony was stirring, please don’t be fooled!

The bridles hung on the doors with care,
Hoping the children would soon be there!

The ponies were restless all tucked up in bed,
Whilst Jackie, a million thoughts run through her head!

Once all ponies were asleep, happy dreams arose,
With visions of their friends, a jumping they will go!

For in just a few hours, the new day will come,
And all will awake to the bright morning sun!

Ponies with fresh trims, new shoes and a smile,
All fidget and fumble with excitement for a while!

The ponies all whinny with glee to say,
‘I’m ready to do this, let me get on my way’!

Jackie stands back with happiness and fear,
For the long awaited reopening is finally here!

Not only today have we had the arrival of our miniature Shetland foal 🙈 but also we have received guidance from the BHS this afternoon to advise that following the announcement from the Welsh Government we are able to offer private and household lessons 🎉

Puzzle would like to say hello to all of his friends🐴

The much loved character that has already stolen so many hearts whilst keeping spirits up in lockdown has kept himself busy completing his training and is now officially halter broken and leads around like a big boy... it’s the least we could do to give Hera 5 minutes peace 🙈

We are very pleased to introduce to you the newest arrival to team Dewicwrt - Jess has produced a lovely little filly foal who has stolen our hearts at a week old with her enquisitive personality 🐴

Daisy is asking everyone to please respect lockdown rules so we can get back to normal as soon as possible - she really can’t wait for Grace to return to school... she’s running out of disguise 😂

Wayne celebrated by playing with his cone, for Pegasus it was all too much and he needed to take a nap to let it all sink in😴 , Marshall has had to keep himself entertained with a banana peel 🍌, Cooper felt the need to take a nice cold bath to let it all sink in 🛁 whilst George however is feeling the strain of the lockdown and cannot wait to be set free 🐎

We may be in lockdown but Mother Nature doesn’t stop for anyone and Sunday morning we woke up to a very welcomed new arrival 😍 Hera gave birth to a very handsome c**t foal (little boy) whom we are all smitten with ❤️

With many people having some extra time on their hands we thought that you could help us... can you think of a stable name for this lovely little boy? 💙

The person who comes up with the winning name will receive a free taster lesson and a chance to meet the little man himself 🐴
