Smiling new faces at Llangattock Primary today 😀 A lovely way to start a full week of teaching and orchestra rehearsals. We have space for just 2 more trial students at Llangattock on our 6 week Free Trial.

This is fully funded by the National Plan for Music in Powys and is a great way to try out an instrument before committing to formal lessons.

We are even able to offer the loan of a keyboard for a limited number of students.

Their musical journey can start with us from the very beginning.

Mini Music Explorers is our baby and toddler music programme, but it's so much more than a traditional baby music class.

Led by a music therapist and piano teacher, our sessions combine songs, movement, musical games, instruments and real live music, introducing little ones to the fundamental principles of music from the very beginning.

We deliberately structure our sessions to create foundations that naturally lead towards learning an instrument.

Here's the special part - their musical journey can continue with us.

From first explorations of sound, through piano lessons, ensembles and also Piano Orchestra South Wales, our aim is to create a musical community that children can remain part of for many years to come. From their first musical experience to performing on stages around the world.

🎹 A little piano technique recommendation…

I had the huge privilege of studying the Taubman Approach with two wonderful teachers - first Kenji Ouellet, who I travelled to Berlin regularly to study with for several years, and later the truly incredible, world renowned Edna Golandsky.

I came to the approach after encountering some serious playing related injuries, which led me to completely retrain my piano technique. What began as a necessity became one of the most valuable things I've ever done as a pianist and teacher. The tools I developed have stayed with me and continue to inform both my teaching and my own playing.

Edna has recently launched Inside Edna's Studio, a fantastic library of videos exploring technique and repertoire.
I particularly enjoyed this one on leaps and crossing the hands, using passages from Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata and Op. 10 No. 3. I've seen so many students AND teachers struggle with these movements, and Edna demonstrates beautifully how changes in body placement, fi*****ng and rotation can make them feel much more secure and comfortable.

If you're a pianist or piano teacher, it's well worth exploring the library.

🎶 Mini Music Explorers is back! 🎶

We’re delighted to be starting our new term on Tuesday 8th September! 💛

Join us every Tuesday, 9.30 - 10.15am at Gilwern Village Hall for a relaxed and welcoming music session for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups. Sessions are booked in 5-week blocks.

Led by Music Therapist Martha Skilton and Piano Tutor Nichola McCloy, Mini Music Explorers is all about having fun and making music together - with plenty of singing, dancing, movement, instruments, exploring and play. 🎵

Come along, make some music, meet other families and enjoy some lovely musical time together.
