Abergavenny Vegan Fair will be taking for the first time in the famous Market Hall in May 2019.

Operating as usual

Vegan Fairs

#ThrowbackThursday to our first Abergavenny Vegan Fair - Ffair Fegan y Fenni which took place in May last year. It was one of our highlights of 2019 and one of our most popular events to date.

The event took place in the beautiful indoor Abergavenny Market, showcased over 50 independent businesses and had a full talks and demo programme with speakers including Fiona Oakes, Richard Buckley from Acorn Restaurant Bath and Mary Frankland from Dean Farm Trust.

We were meant to hold the second event back in May but in April took the decision to postpone to later this month due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last week we had to make the difficult decision with the venue to cancel the event altogether as we still don't feel like we can put the event on safely.

We hope to have a date in the diary for the next event in the coming weeks and look forward to returning to Abergavenny soon!

Vegan Fairs

We'll see you all next year folks ๐Ÿ’š

It is with great sadness that we have had to cancel this year's Abergavenny Vegan Fair later this month due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Abergavenny market still remains closed to the public at this time so it will not be possible for us to hold an event there.

We are still looking at bringing a second vegan fair to Abergavenny and are currently working with the venue to secure a date in 2021.

Thank you all for your patience and stay safe out there ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒˆ

Vegan Fairs

Let us know what you think ๐Ÿ‘‡

You may have seen that under the current lockdown rules outdoor markets have been allowed to re-open. We've been thinking a lot about whether we should or shouldn't re-start our outdoor events.

If we did, we'd obviously want to make sure they were as safe as possible so would have to introduce new safety procedures (e.g. larger walkways between stalls, oneway systems, hand sanitiser points) but it's hard to know if even with these systems in place whether it is still too soon.

So we thought we'd ask you lovely lot what you thought... Would you feel comfortable attending an outdoor vegan market if procedures had been put in place to ensure peoples safety?

We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas ๐Ÿ’š

As it stands there are no plans to postpone our event on Sun 24th May but we are continuing to monitor develops and government advise.

The safety and well-being of our audiences, traders and staff is our priority ๐Ÿ’š

Below are a few words from our organisers...

In response to the new government advice for the public to โ€œavoidโ€ all social gatherings we have taken the difficult decision to postpone all our events till the end of April.

Events effected currently are Chippenham Vegan Chocolate Festival, Chippenham Eco Art/Craft Fair and Witney Vegan Fair 2020 (we are currently waiting on confirmation from the venue on Frome Vegan Market).

We will continue to monitor the developments on an ongoing basis and weโ€™re currently working with venues and traders to reschedule events. We will confirm new dates where possible.

Over the last week we have been carefully considering our response to the situation around the COVID-19 outbreak. While we must do all we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our audiences, traders and staff this will have a massive economic hit, not only for us, but the hundreds of independent businesses we work with.

We know the next few months are going to be extremely difficult for everyone, but we do ask that wherever possible, please support independent businesses during this period.

Even though 15% of the UK workforce are self-employed, the majority aren't entitled to any sick pay. We know this will hugely affect our traders, as well as The Vegan Fairs team. So we'd encourage everyone to be supportive of each other at this uncertain time.

Over the next few months we are going to be using our platform to highlight some fantastic independent vegan businesses that you can still support over the next few months. Weโ€™ll also be generating some new useful and engaging content for you all to enjoy!

Take care and stay safe ๐Ÿ’š

Daisy & Jo

Tomorrow's 'Why You Donโ€™t Need Dairy' talk will now be presented by the wonderful Tony Wardle, associate director of Viva! and editor of Viva!life magazine.

The talk was originally meant to be given by Juliet Gellatley who unfortunately is no longer able to attend the event.

Itโ€™s been heavily discussed in the media that dairy has been linked to cancers โ€“ so this talk will look at how hormones and oestrogen found in milk affects us, and the dangers of milk protein and saturated fats. Not only will this talk touch on whether any of us โ€“ and especially our children โ€“ need calcium from dairy, but how we should obtain calcium and ensure we have strong bones.

Abergavennyโ€™s first vegan fair

Abergavenny is well-established as a foodie hub with its annual Abergavenny Food Festival taking place each September, regular markets in Market Hall and a being home to not one but two award-winning fine dining restaurants.

Thatโ€™s why we were so excited to be bring Abergavenny itโ€™s first Vegan Fair and where better to host it than the Market Hall itself.

Abergavenny Vegan Fair was held for the first time on Sun 26th May 2019 and was a day long celebration of all things plant based. The event itself attracted more than 1,500 to the town centre and with many traders selling out of their products the event was hailed a great success.

As well as supporting an array of local businesses selling a range of products including ethical clothing brands, cruelty free cosmetics and skincare, eco-friendly household products and delicious vegan food the event also included a diverse programme of talks, cookery demos and workshops.

The organisers hope to bring back Abergavenny Vegan Fair next year and make it even bigger and better.
