Bluebells Childcare

Welcome to Bluebells! We offer a childcare service which is based (as much as we can be) outdoors whatever the weather. Everyday is packed with outdoor adventures and opportunities for children to take learning in their own direction.

Hammer Time!
The children have been using new tools this week - hammers and screw drivers.
They have been making their own weaving boards by hammering nails into a wooden board and using the screw drivers to twist in screws.
Fantastic activity which promotes fine motor skills and their independence to learn and achieve new skills.

A Talk that All Parents Need to Hear

Photos from Bluebells Childcare's post 15/07/2021

Amazing discovery down at Forest school today! We went back in time and found dinosaurs! πŸ¦•πŸ¦–

The children have been tracking them for a few weeks now and today they found them!

Amazing conversations today with all the children. We have learnt the names of the dinosaurs we found and we especially looked at what they eat 😬! We discovered that some of them were herbivores and taught the children what that meant. They then found lots of delicious snacks for the Triceratops to eat from around the woods 🌱🌿🍎

I wonder if they will still be there next week.......

Today the Wildlife Trust came to visit!
They taught us all about pollinators and where to look for them around the Forest School site. They also brought moths to show us and we caught (and released) a worker bee 🐝.

The children were so engaged looking at the different moths and could relate the life cycle to butterflies that we learnt about a few weeks ago! They also told the Wildlife Trust why bees look for flowers! (Very impressed with them 😊)

We talk to the children all the time about the wild life around them and the different processes of how animals, flowers and insects work together so to hear them relay some of this information in context was amazing. Such an amazing skill for children so young!

We have loved our butterfly topic this term, inspired by the children's interest in butterflies.

We have learnt about the butterfly life cycle, where they live, where to look for caterpillars and explored colours, patterns and mark making along the way.

We have even watched our own caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies! πŸ›πŸ¦‹

Learning inspired by the children and made lots of fun!

Happy Earth Day 🌎
We have been appreciating our beautiful forest school setting and talking about all the ways we can look after what is around us.
We are so lucky to have such an amazing setting where the children can become fully emersed in their environment ❀

To say we had a good morning is an understatement.
The plan this morning was to take these three on a short loop around the Deri and we ended up at the top. β›°
They found ways to overcome the challenging parts, listened to my advice and didn't complain once. At every turning back down the hill I asked them what they wanted to do and they just said, 'keep going!' They showed pure determination and were so pleased with themselves when they made it!
Very proud of all three of them. Not a bad morning at work at all! 😁

We have had the most amazing day in the woods chasing the Easter bunny and lots of other fun Easter activities. All finished with an Easter egg hunt (of course!). To top it all off our little bells napped down there too - amazing!

Happy Easter Everyone!!

Three years ago I officially opened my doors and started a new chapter in my career.
I had an ambition to provide a place for children where they could thrive and learn in a way that suited them - not a way which is forced in order to tick boxes and please higher authorities.
Three years in and I have already seen so many children come through the door. Some which came just before school and have already gone, some which I have had since they were one and will be leaving this year! 😭 and to top it off, we are booking up as fast as we can offer places.
I have employed 4 amazing ladies to help me out, one of which, @sarahshylalouh passed her childminders course today to become my official partner and help me grow this childcare setting into something truly amazing.
I am so so thankful to every parent who has decided to send their child to us. Especially the first few who came to my house when my walls were bare and the toys weren't in place and trusted me on my vision.
We have lots of exciting plans for the future and it has only been possible to dream because of your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you πŸ₯°

The sun is shining, spring is almost here and we are feeling good 😎 We added lots of colour to our play this week with flowers 🌸
We gave the children paint and flowers to paint with - no paint brushes. They loved exploring how to make marks using different parts of the flowers. 🎨🌼🌺🌹

A few weeks ago I added some bottles to our mud kitchen which contained water and some food colouring - very simple.
I didn't tell the children what to do with them I just watched to see......We have had a cafe which served some very colourful tea 🍡, they have made potions which can make you fly πŸ¦‹, we have learnt colours🎨 and then mixed colours to see what happens! This is so simple but they have loved it! They have been engaged, creative and imaginative. It has supported them with so much learning which they have wanted to be a part of - writing cafe menus, developing fine motor skills, learning colours, discussions and conversations. I can't wait to see what they come up with next week.
It's the simple things ☺️
