The Scottish Government have increased this year's Flu Immunisation programme to include all Primary and Secondary pupils.

The NHS Tayside immunisation team will attend Breadalbane Academy on the 5th and 6th of October to deliver these immunisations.

Consent forms were issued to pupils on 31st August, if you have not received one please email [email protected]

These forms should be returned to the school office by Monday 13th September.

The Pop-up Covid-19 vaccination centre is in Aberfeldy town square today from 1-5pm.

This is for anyone over the age of 16 who requires a 1st dose or anyone who still requires 2nd dose of either Pfizer or AstraZeneca if there has been at least an 8 week period since first dose.

8 of our Nat 5 Hospitality Skills for Work pupils have taken part in our first Barista Academy in Partnership with Glen Lyon Coffee while being joined by STV News

This unique partnership seeks to support local hospitality businesses by providing training, accreditation and work experience to senior pupils at Breadalbane Academy. It brings real-life context and relevance to what theyโ€™re learning in the classroom and prepares them for real opportunities in the local area.

With only a few days left of the holidays it is time to start completing Lateral Flow testing again, for those wishing to take part.

Pupils and staff should begin testing again on Sunday and Wednesday evenings, starting on 15th August. Testing kits can be collected from the main reception from 9am - 5pm Mon-Fri.

You can still apply for Free School Meals and/or a School Clothing Grant for the 2021-22 academic session.

Free school meals and school clothing grants - primary and secondary (administered by PKC Education Department)

โ€ข If your child is in P1 to P4
Free School Meals are offered to ALL pupils in P1 - P4 without the need for parents/carers to submit an application form. However, an application form must be completed if you also require a school clothing grant for your child in P1-P4.
Additionally, to qualify for Free School Meals direct payments during school holidays and any future Family Pandemic Payments, you have to qualify for Free School Meals through the benefit criteria (see below), so if your child/ren are in P1 โ€“ P4 and would qualify this way then an application should be submitted so that the Education Department have all the details required to issue these payments to you.
Don't forget to submit an application form for Free School Meals for your child when he/she moves into P5 as they will no longer be automatically entitled to Free School Meals.

โ€ข If your child is P5 or above
You can claim free school meals and a school clothing grant for your child(ren) if you are receiving:
Income Support
Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an income of less than ยฃ16,105
Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income of up to ยฃ7,500
If you are between 16 and 18 years old and receive any of these benefits in your own right, you can claim free school meals for yourself.
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of not more than ยฃ625

Parents/Carers in receipt of a qualifying benefit will receive an annual school clothing grant of ยฃ120 per child in primary school and ยฃ150 per child in secondary school.
Please note assistance with school clothing/footwear is not awarded to nursery pupils. Children over 16 who are eligible to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance will NOT be entitled to a clothing grant

A reminder for staff and pupils who have signed up to take part in Aysmptomatic testing - you should start using the Lateral Flow kits from Sunday 15th August before the start of the new term.

What is an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)?

EMA is a weekly allowance of ยฃ30 which is paid on a 2-weekly basis in arrears. Payments are made directly into the young person's bank account, if you do not have a bank account you will be required to open one.

EMA may be available to young people who are in full time education or take part in Learning Agreements after they reach the statutory school leaving age of 16.

EMA can be paid for a maximum of 3 years (4 years for vulnerable young people who may need additional time to further their potential).

If you are an independent young person (i.e. receiving education while living in a foster home or children's home and are in the care/have previously been in the care of the local authority, or are living independently in receipt of Income Support or Contributions-Based Employment Support and Allowance), you are eligible for an EMA award without having to provide evidence of household income.
