I’ve noticed a few new followers this weekend so I just wanted to say, Hi, I’m Lindsay, the woman behind Root:Ed Outdoor Learning CIC 🌿

💚 I’m a mum, teacher and outdoor learning specialist who believes some of life’s best learning happens outside.

👩‍🏫 I’ve worked in education since 2008 and have always been passionate about providing creative learning experiences for children and helping them feel confident, included and ultimately, excited about learning.

🌳 I started Root:Ed because I wanted to help more children, families and schools experience the joy, wonder and wellbeing that comes from spending time in nature.

🐞 You’ll usually find me exploring with my own family, collecting nature treasures, spotting wildlife, or getting far muddier than planned!

🌱 My dream is to create outdoor experiences where everyone feels welcome, connected and able to thrive—regardless of age, background or ability.

Thanks for being here and following the Root:Ed journey. I’ll be announcing classes within the soon for Summer 2026 😆

I’d love to know: what’s your favourite way to spend time outdoors? 🍃

Week 1 of the .org.uk Step Challenge and it’s definitely got the competitive edge into the Team at school. However, the highlight for me has been getting out in the sunshine, slowing down, stopping and looking at all the beautiful colours and flowers.

Here’s to Week 2 🦶

For the Upper Stages, a individual research/art lesson for World Bee Day. The P6/7 class that I work with didn’t realise there were SO many different types of bees and they don’t all make honey 🐝💚 I loved to hear them all telling each other about their bees, some deep thinking and creativity at work today.

Looking forward to getting them completed for a collaborative finished piece full of individuality.

Every year we celebrate World Bee Day by playing like bees. Pollinating flower by flower with our ‘pollen’ and collecting ‘nectar’ for the hive 🐝 Add in a waggle dance or two and a bee crown for the ‘Queen’ Bee (me 😉) Guaranteed to make P2 and P3 giggle AND learn, win, win!

Squeezed a lot into three days at school this week!

Sharing our love for Sir David Attenborough by filling our one hundred squares with 100 of our favourite nature with P2/3 and P4/5 🌊🐟🐳🌳🕷️🕸️🐛🦋🦒🐘 Then completing our stop motion animations with P4 and P6, incorporating enthusiastic’Happy Birthday’ audio 🥳🎬🎂🤣

Ooft! April was a busy one, starting an outdoor learning business for schools and communities means meetings, risk assessments, more meetings and paperwork. It’s also the final term at school so more Plans, Paperwork and Projects.

At least the sun is shining and Spring has sprung in great beauty here in Aberdeen. Must remember to breathe it all in and take time for my family too.

If you’re interested in how I can help your school or community check out my website www.rootedoutdoorlearning.co.uk or DM me here 💚
